Do u have a cd or anything on the drive. That sometimes scares me on my hptc, i have a dvd in there since my bios is set to read from cd/dvd drive first then hardrive. Is that the same case..
-
no, it happens even when there is no cd in the drive
also, it shows up after the welcome screen so i dont think it has anything to do
with the bios -
There's a link to another thread on this site regarding this issue. Seem to be related to the way Vista handles multiple monitors.
SOLUTION for Black Screen Flash After Windows Loads
You can also use the search feature on this website to search for more threads regarding this issue, if the suggestions in the above link don't solve your problems.
Good Luck! -
no its not the "black screen flash"
ive tried that fix and it doesnt help
like i said, the black screen shows up for about a minute and thirty seconds
its been showing up ever since the laptop came out of the box -
please?
can anyone help? -
Thanks v3loc1ty2.0 for bringing this up. I am using dv6500t and I have exact same problem. After windows logo and login page, mouse cursor appears on black screen and will stay like that for more than a minute. I tired the solution about TMM as suggested above but still doesn't fix anything. And like v3loc1ty2.0 said, it's not a flash screen, but black screen (mine has mouse cursor though).
I guess a fresh installation without bloatware would do the trick, but is there any alternate solution that doesn't require formatting? -
hey guys this exact same thing happened to me when i got my dv9500. It did not happen the first time it booted but it did happen every single time after that. I was a bit scared of it being a problem with the motherboard or the screen itself but i went ahead and did a clean install and now it has never happened again. So it might have been something in the crapware (bloatware) that the hps come with. Try the clean install, it worked for me.

thanks avillabon
is there any way to do the clean install without an anytime upgrade cd?
i dont have one -
does anyone else know how to fix this without a fresh install?

I had the same problem with my v3417la, after I change the original display drivers to another updated version. testing several video drivers I come to the conclusion that is a video driver issue. Now I'm using version 156.55 (for my GeForce Go 6150 video card) and I don't get any black screen, even using UAC, and the computer works really faster.
My Vista experience index is now 2.9 , and before, using the drivers that come with the computer, it was 2.4. Video is smoother, too. -
i already have the latest drivers
-
Well mine are not the latest. The latest drivers just blank my screen and I was unable to boot, even in safe mode my computer. Thanks I got Acronis!!. So not always the latest is the better...
It tooke several "experiments" to find a good driver... -
I get this problem once in a while too. I think it is the bloatware loading or something trying to load at startup aka NORTON is probably the big culprit. Im guessing thats why nothing else will load thus getting a black screen
Sometimes its just the DVD drive having problems reading a cd and nothing will load until you pop the cd out. -
i do not have norton installed ( i ran the norton uninstaller)
there is no cd in the drive
also, after 1 min and 30 seconds the computer desktop comes up as normal -
Does this happen when you go into 'lock' mode and out of it too? If so, it's probably a driver problem. Try using the latest version offered through
windows update. -
My desktop computer used to do this to me aswell and it had norton systemworks on it, thats why i thought norton would be the culprit.
If you really wanna get rid off the long black screen waiting, try doing a clean install. It will surely get rid off it but thats only if you could be bothered and have the time to do so -
If your problem relates to bloatware then try this program from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/AutoRuns.mspx
It is free and you can use it turn of stuff that you dont want to load during startups. But be careful since you can turn off stuff you really needed. I strongly encourage to look at the website and readme files before trying it. -
