Hey all, this is my first post. I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem with Vista on an HP laptop: when I close my laptop and the screen shuts off, it won't turn back on when I open the lid again (this is when I have the setting that the laptop "Does Nothing" when I close it). To fix it, I hibernate it and then turn it back on. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

I noticed that my NC6400 does that sometimes. Usualy it only happens if the screen wasn't fully (or almost fully) closed. So when it doesn't turn back on, I just fully close the laptop and open it again, then the screen turns back on. Doesn't happen too often though, like 4 times during the past month.

Yeah, I had read that same solution elsewhere on this forum, but it doesn't seem to work for my computer. Just to clarify, everything worked perfectly in XP but now since I upgraded to Vista, I'm having this trouble (not surprising...)

What Vista graphics driver are you using? There are three drivers you can get. 1) Microsoft-approved driver through WindowsUpdate, 2) HP-approved driver through their website, or 3) Modified Nvidia driver from www.laptopvideo2go.com . That last one only applies if you are using an Nvidia graphics chip. In any event, try a different driver, and see if that helps.

I'm actually not positive about which driver I'm using, but I believe it is the Microsoft-approved driver. I have the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card as issued through HP. I had read somewhere that there may be conflicts with this and the laptopvideo2go drivers, or did I mis-read?

Update: I installed the Vista 100.64 driver from laptopvideo2go and I still have the same problem - although my Aurora screen saver does seem to run more smoothly now... :)

    There's a 100.65 out. Give it a go...

Hi, I had the same problem but finally I've resolved it. You should this in two steps:
    1. Update your bios with the latest version designed exactly for Windows Vista for your model of laptop. It surely can be found on Software & Drivers Downloads page from www.hp.com.
    2. Update your graphics card driver to this from HP website too ( NVIDIA VGA Driver). Be sure that you choose bios and driver exactly for your model and exactly for Windows Vista (not this for XP).

Additional thing: one side effect of updating your bios should be an option to choose the size of graphics memory in the BIOS Setup. If you change the size from standard 32MB to 64 or 128MB and your refresh your index score in Windows Vista, you should get at least 3.0 rate index for graphics operations.

I'm sure this should help you, but if you still have problem, post it.

Yup, worked perfectly, thank you! I increased memory for graphics from 64 to 128mb, but I still only get a rating of 2.4 for 3D graphics but 3.0 for Windows Aero. It seems I don't get the added effects in the Photo screensaver, though, which seems odd. Thanks again!
