    Blank screen at the log in screen. HELP!

    While I was watching a movie, my laptop made a weird noise and just turned off. Then it restarted on its own and when it gets to the log in screen, it's all black and just stays like that forever. I can see the mouse moving, but nothing else. I know it's the log in screen because I can hear the sound. I've also tried it in safe mode, but it does the same thing except the blue log in screen actually comes up. But it still doesn't load. Any help would be appreciated!
