I accidentally fixed the blank screen problem of my friends' DV2197EA, the configuration is T7200, 2G, Geforce Go7200. The method is to change one of the memory stick to PC4200 512M. I am not sure if just lower the RAM speed or break the dual channel fixed the problem as that is the only spare component I have. If it can be fixed by lowering the RAM speed, I think a bios modification will be good enough from HP. The bad part is some performance degrade, the good part is we get our notebook back to life. :)

Exactly I agree with flipfire. It depends on the beep codes. Most of the users with the Go 7200 and Go 7600 were having the 1 long beep + 2 short beeps problem which meant the GPU failed.

It doesn;t hurt trying. The notebook display same symptom:
    1. It died after ~1 year
    2. It can be brought back by re-sit DRAM
    3. It died after a standby and can't boot after power cycle
Which I found common for all the blank screen problem.
Please just try and report the test result before jump to a conclusion
