I got a new DV5t last week and had a couple of questions about some pre-installed programs.

    1. What is the Sling box program and is it just a trial version?

    2. What is the Serif Web Plus program and is it just a trial version?

    3. What are the other programs that are considered Bloatware on my new machine, especially trialware that has an expiration date?

I've went through the same process with my last two HP laptops. The most recent one was a dv7t that I only kept for five days, then returned it...but I went through the clean process the day I got it. This was about four months ago, so there may be some minor changes in pre-installed software. But overall, it should be very similar...

Here's the list of what was installed and what action I took-

Symantec Norton Internet Security (60-day trial)- if you don't plan on keeping it long-term, trash it.

Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student Edition (60-day trial)- if you don't plan to buy it, get rid of it. If you are planning to buy a license and use it permanently, you may want to think about uninstalling MS Works.

AOL Instant Messenger- send it back to HELL!

If you aren't using Revo Uninstaller to remove programs, it would be a good idea. It will run the un-installer included with each program you're removing, then it scans your system for junk files left behind. Those files are left behind to junk up your system if you just run the uninstaller. Revo is free and here's the link- http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Thanks a lot allfiredup. I will definitely do that. One question about revo unistaller. I already sent AOL messenger and Norton to hell. Is it too late to use Revo to get rid of the junk messenger and Norton left behind?
