PowerDVD 12 Ultra can play Blurays well. Even in 3D.

I don't believe that PowerDVD is a free application. Are there any free alternatives to play Blu Rays on Windows 8?

    Thanks!

Vlc or mpc-hc, menu may not work though.

When I tried Vlc I got this error message:

    Blu-Ray error:
This Blu-Ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it.
    Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'. Check the log for details.

AFAIK there isn't a freeware that will play a BD media movie properly besides something like WinDVD and PowerDVD that are paid programs that have the BD capabilities playback. There might be other software but those I seen so far are paid program that plays BD movie.

Here something else I found don't know if it is free or not but here is the link to look at.
