I got a new HP pavillion laptop a couple weeks ago, with the blu ray drive installed. I've had no problems burning CDs to play in my car.

However, today I tried to load a CD onto the hard drive. It won't recognize it. I tried a different CD. Nothing. If I go to "my computer" and try to open the CD drive it says "please insert a disc" when there's a disk in the drive! I am absolutely stumped. Does anyone know what to do in order to fix this problem?

as an update: it won't recognize any disc. Lacking a blu-ray disc to try, I tried an audio CD, a program CD from a computer game, and a DVD. None were recognized in any way by the computer.

    Call up HP :)

Have you tried *gently* cleaning off the lens?
