Hi guys,
I have a dv9000 customized, it was running an old firmware, I think it was F.5 or so, I bought it in December 2006. I did a lot of research and decided that the F.16 BIOS update would be the best since I interested in keeping cool more than keeping it quiet, so I installed the firmware.
I think it was supposed to restart the computer, but after about 3 mins it still remained off, so I started it up. Now it goes to the WindowsXP load screen and then gives a blue screen error saying something about checking computer for viruses and hard drive failure, it goes so quickly I can't read it.
HP recommended I use the Drive checker, I did a thorough test and everything passed. But it still isn't starting up, and when I go to repair or reinstall XP it says it can't find any hard drive. Any ideas?

Try going into the BIOS and looking for something like "HDD Legacy Mode" or "SATA Enable/Disable" or "SATA Mode"...and choose the other option that is not your current setting. Reboot and see if that helps...XP might not have the correct drivers for the hard drive if the BIOS update switched the HDD's mode of operation during your update.
