Trying to bluetooth my Treo 700w with my DV 2000...

I am new to using Bluetooth and I can't seem to figure out how to connect my Treo 700w via BlueTooth to my HP DV2000. I'me using Activesync and I've read the help on the install files w/ no luck. I can't even find the bluetooth options on the laptop without switching to "classic view" in the control panel.

Any and all help would be much appreciated,

    Mike

Well ill try to help you as much as i can, but ive never used activesync before. As for connecting your Treo to your dv2000. What you can try is loading the bluetooth software that is under "all programs" and doing a discover of your phone first, first you have to pair, hopefully once you pair it you should be able to sync your phone using active sync. Make sure you have the bluetooth program box open and running, or else it will disconnect if you close it. For my Compaq V2000z i have to leave the bluetooth window open in order to keep the connection on. otherwise it will discconect. Again im trying to help as much as i can but ive never used active sync, this is just a guess as to how i can help you. BTW if you cant find the Bluetooth software, try reinstalling it from your driver disc hopefully it will leave you a bluetooth icon on your desktop or under programs.

Under my "All Programs" I have a link for "My Bluetooth Places", but there is nothing there. I've tried running the Bluetooth setup wizard but I get an error says that "no local bluetooth device was detected".

My phone has bluetooth on and detectable, and my HP Wireless Assistant says bluetooth is on as well...

    Hey Mike...

I got my dv2000 yesterday and I am also trying to connect my ipaq to dv2000 using active sync... I googled a lot about this active sync using bluetooth and realized that a lot of people were not successful.

Anyway, I finally found a manual for bluetooth active sync (it is a manual from Fujitsu ), hope it will help. I will also try this in the near future.

    See attached pdf file

Ugh!! This should not be this hard. I can't even make it past step 1 which is below.

"To set up a Bluetooth connection, do the following:

Open the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel.
On the Options tab, select Turn discovery on and Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer.
On the COM Ports tab, click Add.
Select Incoming (device initiates the connection) and click OK.
Note the number of the COM port that was added. The COM port number must be no higher than 20.
Click OK to close the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel."

Where is the bluetooth control panel? Is that the same as Contol panel--> switch to classic view--> Bluetooth Configurator
    or
    All Programs-->My Bluetooth Places

In either case I don't see an options tab. In the configurator there are 2 tabs that will allow me to add a port, local services and client applications.

I feel like I keep getting close but no cigar.

On the phone I can find my laptop but the only available services that show up ar, hands free, service port, and DUN. No Activesync.

Any other suggestions are much welcomed,

    TIA

    Mike

:D I've finally got it working! A change on the task bar of the bluetooth icon from "always hide" to "hide when inactive" was the fix. If anybody runs into problems with this issue I can post the steps which worked for me.

    Now, onto pdaNet :)

Ok this is off memory from a while back so I apologize if I make any mistakes.

Make sure the Bluetooth Icon is showing in the system tray. If its not showing you won't get the pop-up balloons which you will need to allow the connection to be established.

    Start--> Control Panel--> Classic View--> Bluetooth Configurator

    General Tab- Name your laptop
Accessibility- Check the box to allow discovery
Local Services--> Add serial Service-- Check both boxes and take note of com port (I used com 4)

    Open ActiveSync on computer
File--> Connection Settings-- Check the box to "allow connection to one of the following" choose the com port that you used in the configurator.

Open bluetooth settings on your PDA, select the devices tab, new partenership. Follow the prompts on your phone and computer. This is when you'll get a series of balloon. Enter a passkey of whatever you choose on both devices.

Now the partnership should be established. Now select the partnership to view the settings and then make sure the box for activesync is check. If it doesn't say activesync then go back and make sure the com ports match.

Now open up activesync on the PDA menu--> select connect via bluetooth. Probably a couple more ballon prompts and your finished.

You should be up and running.

Let me know if you have any problems.

A good complimentary program is PDAnet from June Fabrics, also the newest beta of activesync seems to be very stable
