Could any of you Compaq V2311US or HP L2000 users tell me the model number of the bluetooth module? My laptop doesn't have one and I would like to add it.

    Thanks,
    Troy

perhaps it is the same numbers as in this technical manual of the HPdv100 & Presario V2000 series .. (this seem to be pentium-m specific but it could be the same modules/add-ons inside)
check page "84 of 228" in this pdf it says "
    Spare part number "376652-001"

Here's the P/N for the Compaq Presario V2300 series. It should (I stress the should) be compatible with your model.

376651-001 $65.00SU Mini PCI wireless Bluetooth module (Broadcom) - The Bluetooth wireless technology uses the 2.4GHz band

I will need to know the exact P/N of the notebook from the underside of your unit to find the exact P/N for your exact model.

Update: Brianstretch, thanks for the boot to the head, I needed that :) . I didn't read the message completely, confused it for WiFi rather than Bluetooth.

If it's like my zv5000z, Bluetooth is on a separate internal USB module, not on the miniPCI WiFi card. I took my notebook apart and verified this (removed WiFi card, still had Bluetooth).

The one thing I'd be worried about is that HP Bluetooth driver updates tend to install new firmware into the USB module, so having the correct USB module is important. OTOH, the HP installer might be intelligent enough to figure out which HP Bluetooth module you have and send it the right firmware. At any rate, 'tis another reason to go CTO (Configure-To-Order) if you can.

My full part number is EC186UA#ABA.

I probably should have went the build to order route but the $699AR price tag was too tempting for me to pass up. I have added 2GB to the laptop for $198. I really needed the RAM for VMWare and the system is working far faster than I expected.

Bluetooth would be nice but if I can't do it tis no big deal.

    Thanks,
    Troy

    Troy,

With that exact P/N, there is no Bluetooth option available. The P/N I have listed above is for the V2300 series, so it should work, but no guarantees.

Here's the site I did the search on. It's HP's Parts Surfer which allows you to buy directly from them.

    http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

Just enter your model# without the #ABA at the end. If you click on the model series on the left rather than the exact model P/N on the right, you'll get a list of all the parts for this series rather than your exact unit.

    Good Luck!

I actually tried that before I posted here. I could not come up with anything and spent a lot of time going through the diffent model numbers only to come up empty handed. I'm starting to wonder if it's soldered on the main board.

    Troy,

I think the reason you can't find the card is because you're looking at specific models rather than looking for the parts for a specific series. Below is a link that will list pretty much all the available parts for the Presario V2300 series. These parts are used in various config'd models. If the link doesn't work, as I indicated in my previous post, on the main HP Parts Surfer page, enter V2300 (don't enter your P/N or anything specific). You'll get a list of a bunch of specific models, but on the left, it'll show Compaq Presario V2300 Series Notebook, just click on that. On the drop down box for "By Keyword", select Wireless Interface. This will give you a list of all the wireless cards used in the V2300 series of notebooks.

This is the link for all parts for the v2300 series:
    http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/sp...r_id=&callingsite=&strsrch=&keysel=?&catsel=?

This is the link for just the Wireless Interfaces:
    http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/sp...=&strsrch=&keysel=Wireless+Interface&catsel=?

the bluetooth is integrated within one of the USB ports. It would require professional installation as far as i know.

    MSI makes a wifi/bluetooth mini-pci card, available on newegg.com

toshibadirect.com also offers a bluetooth device that is designed like an SD card and simply inserts into the SD card reader.

The Bluetooth module is a seperate card as indicated from the above links (seperate P/N means it's a seperate device). The only real question is will this card fit into this notebook since this is a specific unit that didn't come with a bluetooth option. Going for an external adapter is one of the alternatives, but I believe Try wants to keep everything internal (prefered way to go) as it keeps everything clean (nothing to break off or loose).

    Troy,
You need to check your unit to see if there's any empty ports or slots that might fit the Bluetooth module. If you can get your hands on the Service Guide for this unit, you'll be able to find out exactly where the module would be located, if you don't have it, then you can't add one internally.

Here's the Compaq Service Guide for your Presario v2300 series notebook. The only issue of installing the Bluetooth module is that you have to pretty much disassemble your notebook in order to get access to the module.

    http://h200002.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00400901/c00400901.pdf

Nojoka is correct, the Bluetooth module screws right onto the SVideo/USB card that is located inside your notebook. But again, you have to take apart your notebook in order to get to it. Just remember, this WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!!!!!!!

Just goto page 150 to see how the module is added.

Legal disclaimer: I can't be held responsible for any damage that may occur if you attempt to install the Bluetooth module yourself. The information provided is just for educational purposes and is not intended for anybody without the proper training.

With that out of the way, I hope everything works out for you.

    Good Luck!
