I bought an HDX16t on Saturday and got the default DVD drive w/out blu-ray support because the blu-ray was $50 more and I don't think I'd use it that much. With that said, I'd definitely like to have a blu-ray drive if it was free. So this morning I looked and the upgrade is now free.

It's probably unlikely, but would HP allow me to add the blu-ray drive to my order? Has anyone had success getting HP to do something like this? I placed the order on the 7th and it's estimated to be built by the 16th.

Call them and talk to them about it. If they don't allow you to add it to the order (they should) just cancel your order and re-order it with the free blu-ray. They don't charge your card (if you paid with a card) until the item is shipped. You might have to wait a couple more days but a free blu-ray player would be worth it in my opinion.

I've done this before with a Fujitsu tablet.

    Yes.

    If not, return and reorder.

Unlikely, I havent found HP change the order once its been accepted. As others suggested, return and re-order. Although in this case you will be charged twice until you RMA the old one back to HP.

First of all, when they change the instant discounts, if the blu ray became free then that means the price of some other component (that you may or may not have) went up.. Secondly, they will not modify the order. You would have to purchase another now and send the first one back..

The part about having to reorder is correct. However, if you cancel your first order now, it shouldn't be a problem in having to worry about returning a laptop. If you can cancel soon then you shouldn't have to worry about them even manufacturing the laptop from you first order. So then you would only get the laptop from your re-order.

I got a printer with it, that cost $70, but has a $70 mail in rebate. The rebate terms say that it has to be purchased with a laptop. The printer already shipped today. Should I try returning the printer and buying another one when I buy the laptop again, or do you think they'll let me use the second laptop purchase for the rebate for the original printer purchase?

Just noticed that not only did the blu-ray drive become free, they're now offering an extra $50 off the purchase. So I'd get a blu-ray drive and save $50.

    Thanks for the help.

I would call them. Call them twice if you have to.

The $50 is $50, but the Blue-ray is something that you really want (I would assume).

If I were you, I'd tell them you won't return it if they just give you the Blue-ray drive and tell them that they can keep the new $50 discount and apply it toward the cost of adding the Blue-ray drive. Everybody wins right? Better than dealing with the hassle of returning it (which you must stress you WILL DO) from their vantage point as well as yours.

Read nephipower's post. The longer you wait the lesser your chances IMO.

Worst case.......you're are stuck w/ what you have unless you want to deal w/ the return process.

Actually, the put a pending on your account. So it looks like they charge you, no money leaves your account until the item is shipped.

That allows them to have flexibilities once customers decide to cancel the order. Otherwise, it would be really complicated.
