Well, I went ahead and tried to do a system recovery and got an error message and now every time I power on it says that Boot Manager is missing. I called HP and they say they're gonna send me a set of DVDs for free (since I was foolish not to make my own when I first got the notebook). Anybody else ever been through this? This really cramped my day... I feel so terrible just looking at my notebook there helpless... I wonder if I should just take it back to Curcuit City for an exchange. I am after all still in my 14day exchange policy.

Do you have a copy of vista operating system. You could do a repair from that operating system which would bring back your boot manager. The other way is to wait for the recovery disc. Still under warranty take it back and maybe you will find a different notebook you would like.
