So some kid contacted me today about a tablet that I was selling on craigslist. He ended up buying the tablet and giving me his broken dv6000 series. This unit boots fine into vista on an external monitor. As far as I can tell everything is good on it. However, the LCD does not work.
Heres where it gets weird. The kid ordered another LCD and tried to replace it, to no avail. I opened it up and everything was hooked up right. Then I tried the other LCD, he gave me with it. Same thing. When I hit the fn f4 in vista, it appears to try to switch but the LCD never comes up. Also, when switching display modes, the LCD will flicker breifly (VERY BREIF). This does not smell like a video adapter or motherboard problem. I am still working on it and researching but figured I would see what all of you thought. Any ideas?
Thanks!!
Nick

Can you see the LCD display very, very faintly? If so it's the LCD inverter. The inverter drives the backlight.
Which dv6000 series? AMD or Intel? Which GPU? -
Hi Brian! Its an AMD TK-53 with gf6150. I was starting to think it was the switch but that just turns off the backlight I think? I tried it and held a flashlight up to it to see if I could see anything like the backlight was off but couldnt see anything at all.
This one has me really stumped. -

I think that the switch just turns off the backlight. The LCD cable could be damaged? You could be having one of the more obscure presentations of the infamous defective NVIDIA chip problem:

despite external monitors working... tough one. I'd be inclined to let HP mess with it if your notebook is covered under their enhanced warranty program. -
Its not covered. I took it as a trade in for a Tablet. I buy equipment and resell it as a side job. I have decided to sell this one and the DV2000 on ebay for parts. I figure Ill at least get what I got in em. Since the idea was to use these two for personal use, I am going to buy an MSI GX610 instead. Thanks for the help Brian! Ill still be around to help out where I can though!

Well, I was putting the DV2000 back together and decided to try reflowing it again. IT FREAKIN WORKED!! Lol! Now I dont know what to do.....

I've been looking for an affordable screen for a dv6000. Do you happen to still have them or did you sell them on ebay already? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, sold it all on ebay and bought my GF an MSI GX610.
Bought a DV6000 with a problem. External monitor works but LCD doesnt.
