    I bought a DV7tSE with a i7 720 6gb ram 1gb discrete graphics.

Now am contemplating returning it and going for a dv6tse with a i5 540 with a backlit keyboard.

I like the size (17"), but am wondering if the quad is really all that good and also like the idea of a backlit keyboard. Would it be worth downgrading the cpu to the 540 going with the same 6gb ram, and switchable 1gb graphics instead of discrete? Is the 1.6ghz cpu holding me back where a higher ghz cpu dual core could be helping me? Basically just want to get the best bang for my buck for what I need.

What I am doing with it:

    Browser - multiple tabs
    Premiere CS4
    Photoshop CS4
    Dreamweaver CS4
    Office - publisher - word
    Viewing remote surveillance cameras

    And thats about it.

I need to get recommendations before my 21 days is up, I have had the laptop for a little over a week.

    Thanks!!

The i7 is definitely better for Premiere Pro, so if you use that heavily, then definitely keep the dv7se

What you have is the better one by a wide margin, read about turboboost btw. Besides you will be much less confortable editing in 1366x768 than 1600x900. 768 only in vertical res. is a real problem.

If you dont care at all about battery life stick with the i7. As for performance, the dv7 setup dominates the dv6
