    Dear Sirs and Ladies

My girlfriend just bought her self a new HP Pavilion dv3000.

I helped her with setting it up, and it worked perfectly. Yesterday evening I plugged in the earphones while playing some games. Still flawless usage.

But today there's no sound coming out of it. I've tried to update the sound drivers, but didn't help. I've checked that the proper sound source is chosen as "Primary" in the Control Panel.

When playing sound the sound bar raises as if a sound really is played - but it is not.

    Please help.

The OS is Vista Home Premium.

I find that my dv5t laptop also, after I pull my earphones jack out of the socket, will sometimes have no sound, but turning the computer off and rebooting always solves the problem.

Sometimes changing the settings will fix it. Have you checked all the settings at the "IDT Audio Control Panel" and the "Sound" section (both located in the Control Panel)? Something may have shifted while playing the games, that needs to be re-set. In Sound, for example, under Playback, next to Speakers and Dual Headphones, there should be a little circle that says "Working" with a green check mark. Also, there is probably a link that allow you to return to the default settings.

Additionally, try clicking on the Volume control (in the right side of the Task Bar), and then click on the "Mixer" link at the very bottom. That shows the currently set volume levels for your applications and devices.
