Hi there fellow members.
I recently placed an order on costco for a dv2000t. And i was wondering
if anyone had guides/articles/Info/tips/advice on the dv2000t's, known problems
and things i should check for when i recieve it on the 25th.
What I've learned so far is the battery life isnt all that great. There are SEC/AUO/ QDS screens.
Is there other things for me to know when i use this laptop?
Basically all the things consumers like me, aren't aware of when purchasing a laptop?
P.S: THANK YOU " WE ARE NOT ALONE " He/she was the one that brought costco's 6 month return policy to my attention. Although this doesnt mean I'll abuse the policy, all it did it ease my purchase knowing i can return it for defects.

Anyways, to the OT, the dv2000t is a very good computer. The only well known problems are the SEC screens and some touchpad problems, neither of which my model has.
The battery life on mine is pretty good. About 3 hours the last time I used it, however, I rarely use battery, so it's little concern of mine.
Reformatting is usually a good idea, however, with the disks from HP or the disks you burn, they're all going to have the bloatware. There is a way to burn a clean set (I think) but I frankly don't have the time to try and figure it out.
As for the delivery date, it'll probably be there before the 25th.
And if it is the 25th, expect it a few days after, as FedEx doesn't operation on Holidays.
Hope this all helps.

If you look in the new dv2000t owners thread on here, you'll see more discussion on the screen issue. It looks like the many of the SEC screens they are sending out now are very good (either different screen model or they just improved the panel). Just use the machine when you first get it and see if the panel is to your liking -- if not 6 months should be plenty of time to see.
Reformatting and installing Windows is something many people here advocate. It's not nearly as easy as it should be, though, since HP doesn't include a proper Windows Installation CD, and provides no way to create one. If you are planning on upgrading to Vista soon (with the Express Upgrade program) then it may not be worth the time and trouble to clean install XP. If you don't just add/remove all the crap. It's not quite the same, but it will still make a difference.
As for the touchpad, use it and see if it bothers you. The synaptics control panel has excellent adjustments available, but I would try to at least use it for a little while to get used to it before adjusting the settings.
Anyway, enjoy the machine. -
Run out the the near dealer to compare your screens. My only advice is get an external mouse like the V200 would save you some headaches.
