As I reported in another thread, I was pretty happy about the display of my brand spanking new (well, almost brand spanking new now) dv6275us until I compared it to my neighbor's equally brand spanking new (but abysmally slow) Dell E1501. His Dell screen appeared to be about 1 notch higher in brightness than my HP. For instance, the background on a MS Word page was whiter on the Dell than the same page on the HP.
At first I attributed it to the fact that I have a Samsung display. But a search of threads complaining about Samsung displays did not seem to relate to my bit of dimness. My display is sharp and has rich colors and the horizontal angle of view is good, IMO. I think the display is really good and would just like for it to be a bit brighter.
My HP has NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400, so I cranked up NVIDIA's Control Panel and saw that hardly anything can be changed. I searched NVIDIA's Help Page and found that there should be settings for brightness, contrast, etc. under "Display," but those settings are not there.
(The Dell's video card is ATI RADEON Xpress1150 256MB HyperMemory.)
So, I did a search of NBR threads and discovered that NVIDIA's drivers are not yet ready for Vista prime time. Evidently, some updates are forthcoming.
Which leads me to wonder this: Is my screen not quite as bright as my neighbor's Dell because his control for brightness is set higher and mine is set at some untouchable default level?
And this: If NVIDIA comes out with an updated driver, miight that not provide the setting to adjust screen brightness?
I suspect that brightness can be overcooked to where colors begin to wash out, though.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bill

I think your exactly right about the drivers. I was using Vista on my dv9000t but have now gone back to XP MCE because of the nVidia drivers. They don't have the options in Vista found on XP i.e. Powermizer, contrast/brightness and the display settings not working properly in Vista media center.
Also it has been noted that nVidia will not be releasing GeForce Go drivers for Vista - it's up to the laptop makers to provide these drivers.
Until the driver debacle settles down and nVidia release a Vista ready version of PureVideo, I'm sticking with XP. -
I don't think that Nvidia's drivers have anything to do with the actual brightness of a laptop LCD. That's controlled through the mobility center in Windows Vista. Go to your power options and you should find a slider for your screen brightness. Usually the type of brightness controls that are in the video control tabs for nvidia relates to overlay controls/brightness and stuff. That will affect how bright DVD playback and video playback is, not just your normal windows viewing experience.

my only problem is not being able to access color vibrancy controls. colors sometimes look a bit washed out on my 9235nr

I still thinking Nvidia cards are the best, bether then ATI but driver are so bed.
Sorry for my English.
