I'M not sure, but it really does not matter, all those things are is marketing propaganda...don't fall for it. Just find a notebook with display you like and looks good. Remember a rose by any other name smells just as sweet.

*foot in mouth* I should research before I dismiss that as marketing junk. I'll take a look at Bestbuy sometime!

Ditto, marketing junk. Screens can only be judged first-hand. Go to best-buy and test it. If you are afraid of ghosting, move the cursor quickly across the screen. If you see multiple cursors trailing it, you know the response time is above 30ms. This gives you an indication of LCD performance. As for brightness, comparing side-by-side helps. Make sure both machines are turned up all the way on brightness.

yeah cause the Brightview on the HP models and the XBrite on the Sony models, and the Toshiba's Satelites all have it. The LCD quality is the most beutiful computer screen I have ever seen. At first glance you can tell the difference and it puts all the other screens to shame.

I was looking more into it, and it seems as tho it is offered only on 17 inch screens. On the Toshiba models tho, they have it on much smaller screens.

After looking around more, I think that the D470K has it. Hypersonic has the WSXGA with Super Glossy Surface or something like that and I think that is the same as Brightview.

But damn...I do hope that HP will get their **** together and offer a real AMD64 power/gamer notebook!

There are two things that can make an LCD screen "Bright". There are stronger backlights and there are glossy coatings. Backlights take more power, but are actually raising the quality of the LCD. Glossy coatings sound artificial to me, but I have yet to see one in action. Make sure you know which you are getting, and be sure you like it; see it firsthand.

What is this "BrightView" that a lot of people say that HP provides on their LCD's? I've searched the HP.com website for any news or descriptions of this and can't locate anything. Does this really exist or are the HP notebook LCD's just brighter due to a brighter backlight? The HP notebooks do have very bright LCD's on their units compared to Toshiba and Gateway (side-by-side comparison at Costco, 17" models). I also had the NX7000 and I must say, it also had a VERY bright LCD screen, but it didn't indicate anything about "BrightView".
