Brightview for certain. Not only is the display much more vivid, but I prefer the focused reflection of a light instead of the diffused glare of light which washes out the display.

I understand what you mean, but I have never had my screen become "washed out" due to a light source. The exception being direct sunlight, but that has a more "you can't see anything effect" :p But that's inconsequential as glossy is affected in the same way in that situation!

This isn't a matte vs glossy post (I have already posted before in this thread on that), it is just nitpicking at one point :D But really, my display has never been affected adversely by any light source

I was hesitant about Brightview when ordering the first one. Now that I've had it on several units, I could not go back to a matte screen.

Why do you say so? Would you qualify that, such as if you're working outdoors, etc.?

I have a glossy screen and mostly do word processing and research. I do not notice any difference in eye strain, but I may be missing something. BTW, my eyesight is off-the-chart bad!

Glossy does reflect light, but it reflects it like a mirror--distinctly. Matte also reflects light, but if diffuses the reflection over more of the screen. I've always had glossy until recently, but I now prefer matte.

I find glossy to be like a regular desktop monitor.

<atte. I use my laptop in my car alot, and outdoors, as well as in the shop (flourecent lights) and the reflection is too obnoxious. Also, being a particularly anal (and slightly obsessive) home-theater-phile, I prefer the more natural image from a matte screen. Glossy screens tend to have unnatural contrasts and overly saturated color schemes, that are unpleasing to the eye, and horribly unrealistic. I even removed the plastic glossy/protective screen from my RPTV.

Brightview for me too, I just ordered one of those 3M privacy film just in case I work around heavy light source and outdoors. Ebay it as I found mine for less than $25 retails over $50 at a lot of stores.

mine is glossy but I had no choice with a pre-configured dv6265

I don't mind it at all. I've only used it indoor so far.

As long as you are indoors, the glossy does well. I have it also. However, I tried to do some work on the porch last Saturday and the reflection was pretty tough. Everything in life is a trade-off, isn't it?

    Enjoy your new lappy.

I have to go with the Brightview having had the matte on my last V5000Z.I use it indoors mostly so I don't know about the reflection problems.I was so blown away by the difference I would never go back. The screen just jumps out with clarity, color and precision.

    i concur

okay just my 2cents, i dont see the whole point for this thread.
just get the matte screen, (matte = no glare) done.

who cares, most of the users use their laptop indoors. so really, ask yourself, are you really going to spend MOST of your time at a park, or in your car and do your work. seriously but then again to each their own.

i use to have a matte screen and yea its nice without the glare and now i have a glossy one, and the glare isn't all that bad.

my vision is also off the charts too, i'm at negative 8 in both eyes. near sited. and i do long hours of autocad drawings and work with adobe cs a lot. but glossy works for me just fine. hopes this answer some questions.

I don't like glossy, but I have it, since there's no choice for HP consumers.

Yeah, I agree on the lack of screen options. A couple of years ago HP used to have high res screens along with matte/glossy options with their 15" systems. These days they seem to favor just the WXGA glossies.
