i was wondering if it would be safe to bring a notebook with you when your destination would probably be about 5 deg. F![]()

I used it mine in temps below 0 celsius but not for long. I was afraid of condensation. Is that the right word?

Like the poster above said, you need to worry about condensation, also the HDD and LCD are also rated to be used at certain temps or they just won't work (or not very well). If it is stored at that temp, then brought into a warmer environment just make sure to give the condensation time to evaporate. Operating at 5F, I wonder if the computer will even boot.
If this is a place you'll be in for a while you may want to upgrade to a Panasonic Toughbook, or similar product that has been manufactured to operate in the environment you are entering. -
well its just for the weekend, so as long as i give it time to evaporate then i dont have a problem. thanks!

I would worry about the heat rather than the cold. I used mine when it's below 0 outside many times. The laptop and all the parts should generate enough heat to keep itself warm.
if you mean extreme like minus 40 or so, that's another story. -
Just dont let it go from cold to hot within a short period.

I have used an older notebook in that type of weather and the only problem is that the LCD tends to be really, really sluggish. I wouldn't expect to watch video or play games beyond mine sweeper.
I don't know much about the condensation problem since it was very dry when this happened -
I was just working in 0F weather; no problems but I use an SSD and didn't need to access any DVDs etc... I would imagine condensation would make the optical pickups pretty hopeless.
