I recently bought a dv2000t, and it came equipped with the 802.11b/g wireless. I've been having loads of problems with it. It connects online, but virtually has no range (~10 ft MAX). I know it cannot be the router... I can browse the web at slow speed and when I start downloading files with Firefox I only get ~3kb/s and about halfway through the download, it just stops. I'm on a 6mbit connection! It's strange isn't it?

I checked the device manager and it says Broadcom 802/11b/g WLAN. Could it be that bad?

I've updated the drivers too. They don't help at all. Anyone know how to fix this?

Try changing the channel that the router broadcasts your Wi-Fi connection. You might have some serious interference nearby. Also force the router to feed out only a "g" connection - that may help in some cases. Lastly, update the firmware for your router.

I think the Intel Pro/wireless 3945 just came with 802.11a/b/g. For b/g, the only option is Broadcom, so it may be reasonable. I used to have a dv6000z, and it used Broadcom, too. The quality is the same as Intel Pro/wireless.
First you may want to verify the driver for Broadcom b/g, then the internet source. The 6Mbs is only the connection speed of your wireless module and the wireless router, the speed of the internet to the modem allowed is a different story.

Hmm.. But I've already updated the drivers for the Broadcom... Well, I found the drivers in HP's site... Maybe there's another place that has an even more recent driver?

And I meant my connection is 6mbit, I'm getting 54mbps off my Broadcom... Which is ridiculous since I don't even feel anything when I'm transferring files in LAN.

If you have problems after the driver fixes/updates I would suggest just buying an Intel Wireless card, or an Atheros off Ebay, you can find them for pretty cheap, and they are top notch quality, my experiences with the Broadcom cards have been similar to yours aswell.

I've changed the channel from 6 to 10 in my router settings... Still didn't work.

So there's absolutely no way for me to fix this problem?

Buying another wireless card is my last resort :-/ If I do have to buy one, which one will I need?

Have you tried connecting to any other network? This will help you narrow down your problem to either the wireless card or something to do with your settings/router. I would try that before thinking about replacing the wifi card.

I've tried other networks, they're even worse. And I'm certain that it isn't my router... Every computer in my house connects just fine. :-\ It's only this laptop that's having problems. :(

Try to check if the wireless card is seated properly and the connections are OK. If there isnt anything wrong then contact HP & have them send you a replacement card. It is pretty easy to access & replace the wireless card.

Broadcoms arent bad. I have been using them for the past 2 years without any issues. Maybe you just got a bad one. Nevertheless if you plan to replace the wireless card, do remember that HP had BIOS lock on non HP certified wireless cards. So, not all third party cards will work.

Is there a place I can find a list of HP certified wireless cards?

Unfortunately no, they dont publicly release any BIOS whitelist but you can buy the wireless card direct from HP specificly for the dv2000t or buy from ebay if they mention the card being pulled from a dv2000t.
