Hey, 1st time user on here(so feel free to move this thread to the appropriate place if this isn't it).

My laptop has its right hinge busted, and I have no clue what I can do to fix it. This was my last place to go since the repair shops are asking for a fortune, I can't find any hinge parts online for my laptop, and HP Troubleshooting is helpless.

My warrenty still has 14 days left, but HP's Tech Support has told me that I either have to pay $299(quoted on E-Care from HP) or $640(Outsourced HP Tech on the phone today). They won't sell me a hinge to do it myself and getting a new laptop is out of the question for me.

I spent $380 on this Laptop last year and I just feel stuck as to who, what, or where to turn to get my laptop fixed. I hope you guys can help me out, Thanks in Advance.

If you still have 14 days warranty left why is HP asking you to PAY?

is this an extended warranty or the original one.

    regards.

    John.

They say that only the limited warranty covers physcial damage and that lasts 90 days. Argh, this whole thing is making me needlessly irate.

So did you cause the damage or did it just break by itself, eg a manufacturing defect which should be covered under the warranty.

give them another ring and talk to sombody else, you might get a better result.

if not do you have the equivalent of UK "trading standards" to contact for free legal advice.

    regards.

    John.

Hi I have the same problem with my dv4000 and I am taking HP to task. If it is under warranty they must replace it free of charge. Are there laws in your country that deal with this? I am having problems as I moved abroad for 2 years but I will get to the bottom of it. I would love to be kept posted on the out come of yours. I have written to the chair of the HP board and hope for as reply. My next step will be to contact the New Zealand department of consumer affairs.

The warranty conditions should be in your package of manuals and/or on their website somewhere. See if you can take a hard look at it to see if the HP person or yourself correct.
