I cracked the LCD on my HP dv9730 the other day and I am not sure if it would make financial sense to replace it, I have no idea how much a new one with install would cost, or just toss it out. What is the typical scenario when an LCD is broken?

A cheap option is to go and buy/use an external monitor as your main screen. Replacement LCD screens run $100-200 normally. HP may charge your in the $300 range to install and such, but it isn't too difficult if the screen can be changed (i.e. no special soldering required).

just buy a new LCD here (or anywhere else) $ 148.15
and just open up the notebook (its not as hard as it seems) because HP has video step by step instructions on how to do it.

i say its better than having HP do it and charges you an arm and a leg, when you can do it for $150 and maybe an hour or so of free time

I wish I had known about these videos before I replaced my screen! It really is not that hard if you take your time. I think it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes but I had no clue what I was doing. I actually bought mine on e-bay and it has worked great!

I just made a guide for replacing the LCD on the HP DV6500T.

    Check out my page here.
    http://www.nogodforme.com/FixHPDV6500T.htm

Part on E-Bay was $130. The same part from Screentek is $300. Big difference. Roll and dice and buy the part on E-bay.

    Hey twbocci

    You gonna fix/replace it?
If not I might be interested in purchasing it.
