My Brother sent me on a mission. His HP Pavilion dv9000t screen did not turn on while the computer did turn on. He heard the xp beginning noise and he was pushing random buttons and you could hear the beeping noises. His cap locks lights was on too. Possible reasons could have been the battery was very low or some kind of mess up sleep mode. Any other possibilities? Is it a warning of something worse to come?

It's quite obvious the screen is not working, either out of power, as in power line connection is broken, no video feed with the base, or the screen itself is totally ruined.
To be sure, just plug a different external monitor to the laptop, and see if it's working or not.

If you heard a series of beeps then the comp is toast. Was he using an external monitor before he shut down?

Maybe he pressed the "external display" button (one of the Fn button combinations)? How old is this machine? Did the Caps lock light turn on and off when he pressed the caps lock key, or was it on no matter what?
