Hi everyone -
I am contemplating in getting either one of these but was concerned about their build quality and durability. I checked out in circuit city the dv2000t and it seemed pretty sturdy (and very slick as well).
So how are they? I know in the past HP/Compaq were not that great in terms of quality.
How do these rate among Dell's inspiron line, IBM's N100 series, Toshiba Satellite series, Acer, etc....
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

In a word... solid.
Mine is, at least. no creaking or anything when I pick it up by a corner. Nothing is loose when I shake it. One thing that bugs me with some laptops is loose batteries, but this one fits quite tightly. It's probably one of the most solid notebooks I've ever handled.
The only thing that isn't solid about it is the trackpad buttons, but I can live with those. -

I have the 6000t. My last computer is a Latitude d500. Overall the Latitude is a little better built. The HP is pretty tight but there are a couple of areas where it is weak. The Touchpad buttons feel loose and imprecise. Mine has one elevated a bit above the other. Also the left side upper area near the ESC key things feel unfinished. The keys there feel soft and mushy, the panels there also lift a bit and you can push it down noticably.
But overall, for the components you get in this laptop for the $ , it is still the best deal in town. Above the Dell 1505 , it's direct competitor. -
Hi prometheus06 - thanks for the info. My present work laptop is a dell latitude d410 which i think is very sturdy and well-built. If the hp is near this quality that would be good. I never use the touchpad so that wouldn't be an issue for me.
The dell 1505 would be the only other thing i would consider; which is better built - the 1505 or 6000t?
Thanks

I have seen a couple of 1505's close up and am not impressed by the built quality. I definitely think the HP has the superior quality and of course the new design is heads and shoulders above the Dell's weird white bumper theme.
Don't let my negative sounding complaints discourage you. It is hard to find faults so I have to exaggerate a bit. Overall it is a fantastic laptop. No laptop's perfect, even my friend's Lenovo $2000 T60 have some issues with a mushy palm rest because of memory placement there. compared to that, My HP is great; I rather have a place where I seldom touch to be mushy anyday. Also, I use a bluetooth mouse so the touchpad is not much of an issue.
So , I say go for the HP you wont regret it. -
Yeah, what he said. I have the dv2000t, but either way you go I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
And don't know about the mushy spot, I don't seem to have it on the dv2000. Maybe it's a 6000 thing. Doesn't sound too bad though.
Enjoy your new computer! -
Thanks prometheus06 and apathosaurus -
The main competitor in this price range was the dell 1505, but i really don't like the inspiron line. The only other laptops i was looking at were the compal hel-30 and toshiba m100 but both are expensive (>$1250). Both the dv2000t and dv6000t fall under this and offer lots of computer for the price.
Just need to decide if i want the 14" or 15" inch and whether the better gpu in the dv6000t is needed for my applications.
thanks again
jeff -
you are welcome Jeff.
I was in the same boat a while back trying to decide. Initially I was going for the dv2000t, but then I read the thread on this board regarding how some dv2000t screens were pretty bad (made by SEC, QDS, and LPL being better.) I didn't want to take the chance in getting a bad screen and liked the idea of the go7400 in the dv6000t. With the go7400 I am able to play BF2 and Company of Heroes. The screen on the 6000t is made by LPL (Lg Phillips) It is bright and evenly lit.
The downside of course is that the 6000t is heavier and bulkier than the 2000t. But it is perfectly portable for me, basically taking the laptop to and from my car and then unpacking at different locals. -
i love my dv2000t.. built to last

Hi -
So coming down to getting one - for those who have either one, do you play games and if so what games? How are the gpu on them? I know it's not meant for gaming, but i may play a game or two down the road and would like to have the piece of mind that i can.
thanks
