I'm looking for anyone with experience building an external charger for battery packs.

Story goes like this. I have an HP DV1000 series notebook but the A/C port and battery recharger have failed. "No it's not the jack" Rather than risk the board failure by replacing surface mount IC chips I would rather build an external recharger and but a second battery to swap out as needed.

Anyone done this? Seems the Lithium Ion batteries make this tougher to do than Ni-Cad setups. Specs are:

    6 Cell 11.1 Volt 4400Mah pack

Please assist if you have experience. TIA :)
