I burned a set of restore disc. Now my C drive has a 2.63 GB file of SwSetup. Can I kill this file?

It would be advisable to have a backup of it just in case you need to reinstall any of the pre-installed software that shipped with the laptop. But otherwise it is safe to delete it.

P.S - HP Application and driver recovery software depends on SWSetup folder, if you delete/move it then it will not work.

I have the restore disc, plus it's on the D drive, right? I assumed that the file was created when I did the restore discs?

No, the SWSetup folder is loaded by HP on all of their systems mainly for use by the application and driver recovery software. If you dont ever plan on using it then you can safely delete. Ofcourse, the restore DVD and the recvovery partition both contain everything to put your system back to factory state.

I would burn the SWSetup folder to a dvd before deleting. It can come in handy if you ever wish to do a clean install in the future........

Okay, I misunderstood what was on the D partition. I've tried to look at it but HP forbids it. I thought it was the SwSetup file. Thanks.
I do plan on doing a fresh install during the winter when there's less to do around the yard.

SWsetup is locked up in an encrypted file on the recovery disc and the D drive, so it's best to have your own copy in a usable format somewhere else.
