I just received my dv9700t yesterday, and I uninstalled the bloatware that came with it, including Roxio. Foolishly, I waited until now to burn the recovery disks, but now when I try to I get an error message which says this notebook doesn't have a drive capable of burning CDs or DVDs. I know it does-- I burned one with Nero yesterday. Is there anyway I can fix this? If I can't.. I can still rely on the HDD recovery partition, correct?

You can rely on the hard drive, all right: you can rely upon it to fail.
All hard drives fail, and its failure is the most likely reason you would need to restore the system. The advantage of the restore disks is that they can be used with a replacement hard drive.
For this reason, you should make every effort to get the restore DVDs burned. (You can probably reinstall the Roxio software from the \swsetup folder. I don't think Nero will interfere with Roxio, so you may not need to uninstall it first).
Failing that, you can probably get a local tech to capture a Ghost image of the drive for a hundred bucks or so. (For comparison purposes, getting a tech to replace the drive and reinstall Windows, drivers and basic applications without a restore CD or Ghost image is closer to $300-$400).
In fact, you may be able to buy a copy of Norton Ghost and create an image yourself, booting to CD with an external USB drive already plugged in and turned on... does anyone up here know if the consumer-grade Ghost CD is bootable? (I use Windows PE, so I never used the retail product). -
couldnt you reinstall from the partiton hps have with the os on them. or just call hp and have them send you the copy of course they will charge you.or couldnt you do a restore point thingy

Is the reason these aren't burning because I uninstalled Roxio?

*bump* can anyone help?

Try re-installing Roxia from the C:/SWsetup folder. It might have removed some system files by accident.
If that doesnt work, then call up HP. Tell them about it and they should send you recovery discs free of charge. -
Do you happen to know which folder it is in the SWSetup? I don't even see a folder that starts with an 'r'

As a matter of course, and due diligence, any laptop I buy, as soon as I unpack it, first thing it gets, is booted into Acronis to snapshot an image of the hard disk onto one of my external USB drives.
I find Acronis True Image (I use the Enterprise Server recovery disc from work) to be the cat's meow, especially Enterprise's universal restore feature.
VERY trick indeed.
Moral of the story? You can never be too cautious with computers...
