is there any possibility to get around the sales tax by ordering it online?
is there any advantage in buying a hp notebook in a store, for me comp usa, or at hp.com?

There is EVERY possibility to get around sales tax by ordering online. Resellers only have to charge sales tax for the states in which they and their factories are located, and there are even ways around that.
For example, let's say you live in California, where MOST of the OEMs are located. You purchase from a reseller in Nevada. That reseller will generally ship the notebook from their OEM to their own office first, then ship from their office to you. This adds a couple of days shipping, but it also keeps you from having to pay sales tax.
Honestly, I'd say your biggest advantage in general is buying online, simply because you can customize the notebook to fit your specific needs, rather than customizing your needs to fit one of the models at the store. -
well my idea was buying the 8510p.
i am perfectely fine with the config, as i cant change it anyways.
but the thing is it costs aprox 1400$ and if i buy it in a store they offer me a discount on the extras like usb mouse or whatever.
so you think, that if i buy it online i ll just pay 1400$+shipping? and i turn out with spending less after i paid the extras...
the shop said that they ll only give me a slight discount but anyways yay. -
Find out how much sales tax would be, then check with HP to see if they charge sales tax for online orders. If $1400 + shipping comes out cheaper than discount + sales tax, go online

how do i exactly get arround the sales tax?
if i simply go to hp.com it costs me sales tax, and if i go to comp usa online or instore it also costs me sales tax. -
RE: TAXES
A) Store Method: Haggle.
because some places have people "selling" the laptop to you, that are on commission, you could haggle your way down to all or a fraction of the sales tax.
B) Online Method: Relative/Friend
Get a friend or a relative that lives in a tax-free state, and pay them a visit when they get your shipment. Its actually an awesome alternative if you actually like them too!
RE: STORE vs ONLINE
Online:
PRO: customization galore, you only pay for what you want
CON: shipping wait
Store:
PRO: you get it when you pay for it (or steal it)
CON: limited to stock, you will run into not finding EXACTLY what you are looking for (Laptop A has feature X,Y but no Z, which is important; Laptop B has feature Y,Z,G,A,B, but no X, which is critical to you; etc..etc..
basically you will have to pay for things you wont necessarily use or need, or buy something with missing components/feature -
Hmmm...I haven't bought from a big-name/low-quality vendor since my father bought the Dell that I inherited. I guess HP has enough locations that the sales tax can't easily be avoided, meaning sillyrabbit's idea is about the only one that would work, and that really isn't worth it.
All the resellers I work with don't have to worry about sales tax because they're in one state, their OEM is in one other (maybe two), and they can ship from either location in order to get around sales tax requirements.
That's just one of the many reasons I'm happy to go with lesser known, higher quality companies.

In-store: Pro: Instant gratification. Return policy an advantage if it breaks or decide you don't like it. Price is sometimes the same as on-line. Con: Sales tax might not be that high to equal shipping charges unless it's free. Re-stocking fee.
On-line: Pro: Might be cheaper. Cutomization. Con: Shipping might be equal to sales tax. Might actually have a sales tax if company does business in your state. Waiting. Returning if laptop dies.
One thing about HP is the warranty covers free shipping (both ways) if you send it in for repair.
Either way it's convenience vs waiting. Sometimes the store price is same or lower when it goes on sale. -
Buy instore vs buy online
