I want to get a 8510p but am trying to decide whether or not it's worth it to wait for the new processors to be available for it. The config I am planning on getting is the T7300 and the HD 2600 with 256MB GDDR3.

When HP update the 8510p to the new processors, will they also be updating the GPU to the 3xxxx series? If NOT, then would a T9300 make much of a difference in gaming with the HD 2600 with 256MB GDDR3 verses a T7300?

The new processors won't make any difference in gaming.

    you'll always be waiting....
because once the new models out, then you can wait for the next which are even better and so on so, if you need it now, just get it now.

Will the GPU remain the same in the 8510p or will it also be upgraded to the newer 3xxxx series? If it's going to remain the same then I might as well just buy now.

im in the same boat, but waiting for penryn to arrive on the 2510p. I almost bought it anyways but the lack of SATA really bothers me. I might be wrong but i feel once SSD prices fall, PATA will not be a popular choice. I definitely want to get an SSD once the prices are lower. I havent heard anything about a new 2510p or upgrade, and the new fujitsu 8010p is great but i would like to try a laptop with a track point this time around. In my opinion the 2510p is the nicest looking machine HP makes.

You'll be waiting a few years for SSD prices to fall to a reasonable level. Their performance honestly does not justify the cost at this time. Plan on getting one for the NEXT notebook you buy, in a few years, not THIS time.

It's a fact that as soon as you buy your notebook a better model or more features will come out shortly after. It's happened every time I bought a notebook and it will never stop. It's something that's hard to not care about, but once you purchase a couple laptops the feeling goes away. I'd say to wait if you knew about a technology that would blow everything away, but that is very rarely the case.

The main question you have to ask yourself is, "Do I NEED it right now, or can I wait a bit?"

This is why HP has the 21 day return policy and the 30 day refund policy. After 30 days, you're keeping it.

I had the same problem. But lucky for me, I was within the 21 day limit when the new penryn came out. So basically I'm getting the T9300 for no additional cost. In another 21 days maybe intel will come out with a brand new proc lol

Wait = New processor will come out
Wait 5 years = New processor will come out
Wait 10-20 years = Even new processor will come out
Wait 30 years = You will be dead and new processor will still come out.

    :D

What about the GPU?! No one has said anything about that. Will it get upgraded to the HD 3xxx series or stay with the HD 2600?

    I don't think anyone knows :p

Was there a processor update between the 8430 and the 8510? If so then we might not see a GPU update. But it also depends on what mobility cards come out...if ATI hasn't released a mobility 3000 series by then HP will probably just keep the 2600.
