Is is better to buy through costco.com or through hp.com?
It seems that the 6-month "no-hassle" return policy at costco would make it worth it ... especially with all the stories I have heard lately.

Costco is generally a great place to buy a notebook. If you're lucky, you can have same day pickup, and you can even play around with the notebooks that they have on display and decide for yourself, which is a big plus.
-
I know I will most likely pick up my V3000z from costco, unless HP.com has a great rebate thing going on and I can cash in my education savings.

Go to www.fatwallet.com and sign up. Then go to the stores section. There is a tab at the top of the page labeled "stores". Find HP. They offer 3% back on HP purchases and it was cheaper than CostCo for me.
Read about the FatCash cashback program for details.

But what kind of warranty to do you get with Costco vs. buying through HP.com? Isn't the accidental/hardware warranty at hp better?
-
hp has won several awards for their support and warrentys (they won't hesitate to tell you either), while i have no real experience with costco. Hp's phone support is top notch though, they are easily the best i have ever used and about 90% of the time you get someone who's first language is english... always a plus.

idk what to tell you, i get an english speaker most of the time. I have been happy with their tech support.
-
yeah even when I get an Indian (lol) they speak ok english.... Just I, like all of the english speaking US hate it.

Even with the "top-of-the-line" HP warranty, it seems that the 6-month return policy with costco.com is hard to beat.
-
one thing about the costco hp's is that they only come with 2 usb ports.
-
What I found out about costco it is a little cheaper to buy from them. Thats what im going to be doing when I get my hp.
-
I'm not sure where you're getting that from.
I ordered, and received a dv1000t six weeks ago, and it certainly has three USB ports, one on the left side, one on the right rear, and one at the right front of the machine.
I've now ordered a dv2000z, and the specs say
• 3 USB 2.0 ports.
Costco simply places their customer's orders with HP, and have the laptops sent directly to the customer.
Why would an HP model ordered through Costco be configured, with it's standard features, any way different than if you ordered it directly from HP?
Maybe another model comes with only two USB ports, but I'd be surprised if it didn't come that way from HP as well... a dv2000 is a dv2000, a dv5000 is a dv5000... doesn't matter if it's ordered from HP, Costco or anywhere else! -
HP.com is the place to be

The CTO laptops ordered on Costco.com are the same as ordering from HP.com except for the price structure and 6-month return policy. Pre-configured laptops may be different. I found the one at Costco with the coupon deal last year to be a specially configured model, however, it was not inferior to other preconfigure models available elsewhere under the same series. It may happen that certain model/configuration with special promotion to be cheaper at HP.com than Costco, but there is nothing that can beat the 6-month return policy of Costco.

At this moment in time, getting the laptop from hp is a better deal. For some reason costco spiked up there prices on all there upgrades. I posted a thread asking why they did that. So check that out and post stuff there if any one finds out more stuff.

aznron911 ... Yes you are right. I think hp.com is cheaper than costco.com right now.
3 days ago, I ordered my dv2000z at hp.com that's because i also needed printer. The price for dv2000 for academy price was around $50 cheaper than that of costco and free all in one printer(dsc1410 $80) was hard to beat...
If I am not satisfied with dv2000, i will definetely return it in 14 days (hp.com returnable period) but if it is good enough, $50 + free printer is hard to beat!
Buy through costco.com or hp.com?
