I've got an Amazon Envy 17-1011nr being delivered that comes with 2x320 GB HDD. I want to swap out one HDD with an Intel 160GB SSD I also have.

Is the procedure simple enough - should I use the SSD immediately opening the Envy out the box or install on Amazon config first and do some kind of clone after? Bit concerned about the RAID config which I don't understand, not having had a RAID computer before.. tnx for any ideas.

keep in mind the drives are 1.8" - is that the size of the SSD you already have?

I think they will arrive on Raid0 configuration - at least they do if you get the 2x160 SSD config option. If so, and you want to use the software etc., already installed on your current SSD, then you will need to unRaid and then swap out the primary drive. If you prefer to start from the HP Envy factory settings then transfer the disk image from the HDD to your SSD before un-Raiding and swapping them.

I think the Envy17 is different to your ENVY15?

My understanding is the Envy17 doesn't have RAID capability and that all HDD's are 2.5" size?

Therefore I plan to clone one HDD for a 2.5" SDD for the o/s.

sorry, I think I read your post too quickly and didn't notice you were referring to the Envy 17! my font size is kind of small and I thought you had posted Envy i7 ;-)

Yes, you are correct the drive bays on the Envy 17 are 2.5" - and you have the right idea, all you need to do is clone the primary drive.
