I doubt there will be any difference just because this is from Costco as the preconfigured models are shipped to many stores.

I would check the HPshopping.com website and see if you can save any money by ordering directly from HP.

    Costco is great!

Bought dv9000t CTO from them. Had a weird problem with touchpad - I didn't noticed it right away. After few hours over several days on a phone with HP got tired (more like pissed). Returned to Costco for full cash refund (literally).

So basically, consider the small difference in price (if there is any) as premium for a super cheap insurance.

If I had more then 2 weeks I could have order it from HP but time is not on my side, and (grumpy3b) you are so right about returning it with in 6 months for a full refund. I was thinking of waiting till presendents day and buying it from circuit city, pay it off within 12 mos but they don't have the laptop I want!

    Thanks guys

I ordered a dv9000 from Costco. It was almost $200 less than the same exact custom configuration on the hpshopping site. I just got the shipping notification, so I should have it next week.

It's coming right from Shanghai, just like the last HP I ordered direct from hpshopping, so I doubt there is a difference at all.

Add the 6 month return and buying at Costco is a no brainer.

Whats a typical Costco experience when returning a laptop? What do they check for? How long do they examine it? What software should I use to remove my data off the old laptop being returned?

    Academic Purchase Plan.

7% or so off pretty much everything at HPshopping.com.

It applies to college-bound high school students, college students, educators, and the like.

I love it. With the plan, I can buy two computers a year with the discount and up to 8 peripherals.

its an easy discount to apply for. You are supposed to be either a student or a teacher (but you can still get the discount even if you are not either on of them ;)) To apply the discount, read this:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=3766

It takes a lot of money off of your order, its well worth it, and only takes a minute to do... :D

Yeah but you miss out on that wonderful 6 month return policy from Costco. There is nothing like having to deal with HP tech support in India when things go wrong after one month. With a costco purchase , you have a problem, just order a new one and when it comes in return the old one. Done.

    Thanks for all you comments.

I just went to costco and I couldn't find the model that I wanted. I try to see if I can order it from HP but by the time I get the laptop I'll be out of the country. So I wait till Presidant Day and hope for the best.

I have the same question too. So what does Costco check for to return the item? That's the question in a lot of people's mind, and yet without much answer in this thread.

actualy the Costco experience is much better then Wally World unless you think that waiting in the return line for 30 minutes then getting to the counter only to have them page someone in electronics to come to customer service counter to inspect return which is another 15-20 min wait. Then the person shows up goes through the box and tells you you are missing a manual or a warenty regestration card so they will not take it back and send you home after an hour of your time wasted.

I actually returned a 9000T laptop over the weekend. I bought it a couple of weeks ago, then noticed it would power off un-expectedly. Eventually it wouldn’t power on anymore. I was going to call HP support, but thought it would be better to get another one. I walked up to the counter and told them I was returning it. They asked why, said “OK” and then they had someone look in the box to make sure everything was there. They didn't test it or try to talk me into getting another one either. They refunded my $1600 without any problems. I am going to order a custom laptop online through Costco this week since I know I can return it again if I have any problems.

Same experence this weekend while returning my DV6000 which had some issues but I also wanted a Vista one. I took it over, the guy checked out and gave the cashier the ok to refund my $1700. I already Ordered my new DV6000t so I had that in hand before returning this one. Isn't Costco great.

today i just purchased my dv6000t from costco.com after reading a thread on this forum about the benefits of going through costco such as the 180day return policy and full refund including shipping costs.

the difference btwn what i saved btwn hp and costco was only $44, so going with costco only costed me an extra $44 that included 180day return policy. w00t
