the X1000 is Pentuim M Based, u get alot of battery life with it and they offer good proformance.. the Zx5000 is a desktop replacement with a good CPU and Graphics card it is intended for Digital work Photo's Video Etc. and Gaming and ZT3000 is also Pentuim M based both the X1000 and the ZT3000 can be used for Office Work, DVD Watching, and Light gaming becuase the Graphics card is a bit weak. so if u intend to game and need the desktop power go with the Zx5000 if not then go with 1 of your other 2 choices

    Hope this helps you

the NX Series is for business are u going to be useing it for home use or for a business? Business laptops are more sturdy usually and more expensive. the Home sector notebooks might be more cost effective.

thanks AJVETT, but the ones that I meant was Compaq x1000, HP Pavilion zt3000, and Compaq NX5000 because I what I saw on HP.com.au the NX5000 also based on Pentium M. Seems these three models are very similar, which confuses me in buying which?

I have narrowed down my choices to HP zt3000/x1000 AND Toshiba M30, I am looking to use the laptop for a long time, so it has to be durable, which one of these are more durable?

The HP ZT & Compaq X series are the exact same system, the only difference is with the outer casing color. These units are also the same as the NX7010.
The NX5000 is based on the HP NC6000 design. The NX series is for Small Business while the NC series is designed for large corporation/enterprise usage.
The NX5000 has integrated video (not that good for game play or high-end graphics), while the ZT & X series has an ATI 9200 GPU. The 9200 should be able to play somewhat recent games and mid to low levels and mid-level graphics apps.
The Toshiba M30 has the NVidia FX Go5200 GPU, slightly better than the 9200 since it supports DirectX 9.0, but I think utilizes more power.

IMO, I think the HP's have a better standard LCD compared to Toshiba. Toshiba's standard LCD (non-TruBrite or CVS) is not as bright and sharp as the HP LCD's. But depending on your uses for this system, both brands should be able to handle gaming, dvd's, office apps, music & surfing. I also think the HP's will probably give you less problems. I have read posts of people having problems with the Toshiba M30 regarding excessive heat under the glidepad area.

No, you're pretty much stuck with the LCD that comes with the unit. You could always check on eBay to see if anyone is selling a working TruBrite LCD for the ZT3000 series (it should have to be exact model specific, something in the same series is good). Just makre sure it's the same resolution as your current one (WXGA, WSXGA+, etc...).
