I found a used Envy 14 Beats on craigslist. Guy only has the laptop and charger, and I'm assuming he wants to keep the headphones. Anyway, he's offering it for a really great price. He sent me the serial and I verified it on HP's website. The Warranty started last month so I'm good on that. The main reason I'm buying one used is because I want the radiance display's resolution.
I'm going to run the serial number by the police and sheriffs department to make sure it's not been reported stolen, and get a picture of his drivers license but are there any particular things I should be looking at on the laptop itself? Any common problems that I need to watch out for?
Thanks!!

Test out the entirety of the laptop before purchase. Make sure that there are no dents, cracks, deep scratches. If the seller has already registered the warranty, I don't think it will transfer over to you. Even if he or she hasn't I doubt you can register the warranty under your name because you wouldn't have the original invoice in your name and HP might give you trouble about that.
Make sure that he gives you everything that make with the laptop. By great price, what are we talking about? How much? -
7-750.
As far as the Warranty.... apparently the guy decided it was a good idea to register the warranty when I asked him for the serial number. I'm sure he didn't know what he was doing, but REALLY!?!? Common sense is lacking these days I guess.
I was going to work on the computer for about 10 minutes just to really get everything going. Maybe watch a few minutes of a DVD. Not sure what else I can do. Most hardware tests take way the hell too long to run.
I've been looking for a new machine to replace my 3 year old DV6000 and this seems to fit the bill really well. I want the aluminum frame and the high res display. The backlit keyboard... I guess everything that everyone else likes about the computer tooI'm not willing to sacrifice the resolution for a new machine, too important.

I can't find anywhere on their Warranty site that says whether it's transferable or not. Maybe someone's better at reading than I am.... HP Warranty - Warranty information
Aside from the obvious Warranty issue, anything else i should keep a look out for? -
I would do a full stress test because there were some graphics problems with some Envys. The 3rd replacmeent Envy 17 received has some snowing issues. The images basically had the snow effect to them.

Wait, you are talking about the Envy 14 Beats Edition, right? The Beats Edition never had an option for the radiance display, if I remember correctly. Are you sure it has the radiance display?
-
I would run a Furmark stress test for the GPU and OCCT for the CPU. This should expose any problems if they exist.

I wonder why it's so cheap.

I have a Beats edition bought through HP Japan, and it does not have the radiance display. At least in Japan, the Beats edition has never had the high resolution display and there is no option to add it when purchasing the machine. From what I've gathered this is also true for everywhere else, so I highly doubt that the machine you are looking at has the radiance display.

Suppose you see the machine and like it? It's a great price. Are you really going to pass over Radiance?
-
yes the beats edition does not have the radiance display. have checked several website and confirmed. and im using the beats edition myself.
-
Yes. I have a laptop now that works. It may be on its lasy year of life, but I'm not replacing it until I find exactly what I want. I'm not so concerned with the different display quality as the higher resolution
Looks like I'll just wait till the Radiance is re-instated as an option! Thanks everyone.
