Hello all...
I am currently getting ready to buy a notebook. I have been trying to decide between a Dell, HP, and Toshiba. I think I have settled on HP b/c they offer the AMD Athlon 64 and are, in general, less expensive.
My question today is: Is it better to buy from hp.com or office depot. I have priced a nearly identical system at both, and hp.com seems to be around $100 dollars higher ($1100 at office depot, $1200 at hp.com).
But then office depot wants to give me a free hp deskjet 3847 printer (which I really don't know if I want or not) and then at the bottom of the price sheet it has 4 mail in rebates listed, which bring the price down to $800. But I don't know if all of them apply or COULD apply. 3 of them deal with buying a printer, which I am not buying, but given for free. Are they really giving me a free printer AND 3 mail in rebates for taking the free printer? The rebates are:
"$50 mail in rebate with the combined pruchase of ANY desktop or laptob/notebook computer AND a qualifying HP Deskjet printer."
"$50 HP pavilion notebook mail in rebate" (this one is also on hp.com)
"HP pavilion zv6000 mail in rebate (must purchase select PC + printer)"
"HP pavilion notebook mail in rebate (must purchase select PC + printer)"
BTW, the notebook I am looking at is the zv6000 with AMD Athlon 64, 1.0 GB of Ram, 80 GB of Hard drive (at 5400 rpm), XP Pro, Wireless with bluetooth, 128 MB video card, 15.4'' wxga widescreen.
I guess I am amazed that office depot will throw in a free deskjet printer (albiet the cheapest one available) and then have that free printer qualify me for $250 worth of mail in rebates. Why would they give someone $250 to take a free printer. Are they going to make that much off of me buying paper and ink?
Any thoughts on the hp.com vs office depot buying issue?
One last comment, I require 12 months no interest, for me to buy a notebook. Hp.com is offering that, I don't know about office depot.

Sounds like an incredible deal from Office Depot; I wouldn't pass up a chance like that if I could help it. I wouldn't buy from HP.com if you're getting that good of a deal, and you have an opportunity to physically take the laptop back to a store if anything goes wrong.
Happy Buying,

I highly agree. Get it from Office Depot.

i just got the HP zv6000 and it great, the total came out to be 651.01 with all the rebates and upgrade.
if you upgrade to the A64 3200+ then you get another $100 rabate. -
What if you buy it online from Office Depot or Best Buy ? Will they have better deals and will you be able to take it back to a store.

Your deal with Office Depot sounds good, are you getting it in store? I just bought my ZV6000 from hp.com because the Office Depot website didn't show the ZV6000. (We retired to the country so, with gasoline costs going up, I did my shopping online.)
I would ask Office Depot about the rebates--I just had to buy a new printer last month after my 7-year old HP inkjet bit the dust. I bought the Canon Pixma IP4000, which came with a general rebate form listing multiple options. For those wanting a rebate for purchase of a printer and laptop, they required that you provide a copy of sales receipt with the purchase price of both the printer and the laptop highlighted.
Just got notice today that my ZV6000 is shipping--checked online tracking, FedEx has already picked it up in China. Now to see how long it takes to get through customs and on its way to me. I was quite happy with the price on hp.com--$100 off instantly with $50 rebate and free shipping. Here's the configuration:
- CTO Pavilion zv6000 series notebook
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2
- AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3200+ (2.0GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
- 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
- 128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)
- 1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
- 100 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
- LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW&CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
- 54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
- Extra 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works/Money -
the zv6000 is not on the office depot website or even inthe store. you have BYO zv6000 from the store.
well today is the last day for some of these rebates any wayz -
Just for future reference, I think a lot of the times printer/computer bundles like this that include huge rebates are, actually, making you purchase the printer as well...it's just simple math that once you put these rebates in that it will be free. Once you get the receipt you'll see the printer costing maybe $50 or so, and that's covered in your rebates. If you have the money to put up front, it's a great deal. Don't worry about the rebates not working...if they don't that's false advertising, and they definitely don't want to get into that situation. (/lawyer)

I want tobuy a zv6000 .cananyone tellme what is office depot and if there is any sales taxon purchase likedell has
whats the bestdeal i can currently get -
Office Depot sells office supplies amongst other things. You can check their page see if there is one near you. You will have to pay tax there though.

zaz,
Thanksfor all the advise.
Last question , could u tellmeif the zv6000 with the bigger battery ,is ok tocarry around at school (inspi 6000 at 7lbs sounds fine ,not sure about this one) -
Weight is a personal preference. Some people think anything over five pounds is like an anvil while others can tote around a nine pounder no sweat. With the 12 cell, the HP is going to be over eight pounds. I personally carried around a eight pound Compaq in a backpack no problem.

Office depot usually has the best deals. But there are a few differences I don't think you mentioned.
Office Depot customized orders are through Techdepot.com, (you can configure there, but prices are usually a little different at the in-store kiosk, and some rebates are in-store only).
HP offers a 21 day return period, 1 yr mail-in warranty standard.
I think TechDepot gives you a 30 day return period, but they do not refund you the $40 shipping charge. Unless you buy the extra warranty through Office Depot, you have the same standard 1 yr mail-in warranty as from HPshopping.com.
I had no problems with OD, but I remember someone on this forum who received a dead pixel was upset that their only option was to return it to OD and lose the shipping fee, whereas it would be free to return if they bought it from HPshopping.com or Costco. -
I just returned my V2000Z today that was ordered via a kiosk at my local store and I received a credit for the full amount, including shipping.
I had not opened either the notebook or printer. I wanted to cancel my order 2 days after placing it, but I was told it was too late to do so and that I would just have to return it to the store after receiving it.
I just couldn't justify buying a 14.1" wxga that is supposed to be thin and light but requires a 12 cell battery to get any decent battery life. It's no longer as thin and it's definitely not light with the 12 cell.
Now OD is offering a deal on the V2000. It would only be about $130.00 more after rebates and tax but I assume the integrated Intel extreme graphics blows. -
I got my v2000 through Office Depot about a month ago, when they had that $400 deal. It was the best deal I found for anything IMO, I added a lot of stuff onto it giving a total of about $650 out the door. I say wait for some deals through them, that way you will most likely get rebates from OfficeDepot and HP like I did.
Buying from Office Depot vs hp.com?
