    Hello
    I am going to buy my First Notebook Ever and need some help.
    I am sorry if someone posted something like this before
    but i realy need some help before i buy.

    this is what i need:

    NO OVERHEATING
    ================
    I have my Desktop pc on 12-14 hours a day so the Notebook
    must be one that can handle this Without getting Too Warm.
    (i looking for a Notebook that dont get overheated in 1 hour)

    PC USE
    ============
    Pc will mostly be used for Internet, music, DVD, Photoshop,
    Playing some Online games (which require atleast 1GB memory)
    i will not play much games but prefer one that can handle them
    if i need too.

    NOTEBOOK SIZE:
    =================
    I am stuck between "Centrino" (smaler and dont get so hot)
    and a Desktop replacement (bigger,powerful but hotter)

    I am going to sell my Desktop computer and only use notebook.
    But i would prefer a Centrino Desktop remplacement (if it exist)
    or something between a standard notebook and a large
    desktop remplacement

    (this is my most dificult choice, price no problem at all )

    I am not going to travel around a lot with my notebook, but
    i don't want one that is too huge to take it onboard
    a Plane Journey inside Europe.

    I don't want to hear
    "Hey man that Laptop is too huge sorry
    you can't take that aboard" :)

    WHERE I WILL BUY IT
    =======================
    This is already decided it will be a Huge store center
    here in Spain "El corte ingles" they offer credit and
    good insurance ,
    I brough from them before and i am satisfaced
    with their service.
    If i get it in November i dont have to pay (or start paying)
    until 31 March 2005 which is great.

    So the place of buying the notebook is decided.
    Now El corte ingles Don't sell DELL Or IBM.
    (So can't buy this ones)

    El corte ingles work mostly with:
    HP pavillion , Compaq , Toshiba, Sony,
    Packard bell and Samsung

    HOW POWERFUL NOTEBOOK I NEED
    =====================================

    Processor: Intel Centrino 1.6-1.8 Ghz or Pentium 4 from 3.4 Ghz
    Memory : Prefer 1024 Mb, but if pc is great 512 MB will do .
    hardisk speed atleast 4.200 rpm
    Hardisk: 80-100 Gb (100 is not realy nesesary)
    Graphics : Nvidia Geforce FxGo 5700 or better
    it has to have memory specialy for games.

    Keyboard: I realy prefer a keyboard with numpad but today only
    HP have this i think, so i probaly can't put
    Numpad as highest priority .

    Screen: I though about a 17 screen, but a 15 is ok.

    Recorders: Cd-rw and DVD(best if is multi burner burn all Dvd's)

    Battery: since is desktop remplacement not so nesesary
    but be good if it last a 2 hours Dvd movie atleast.

    Important: MUST NOT OVERHEAT AFTER FEW HOURS
    (i will help avoid it using coolermaster Fan cooler)

    Extra : It would be REALY great if it has Tv Card built in
    while this is not totaly nesesary it would be a ++

    Price: Not important But can't buy it over internet
    already decided where to buy it (see above)

    I'd reconsider the Acer Ferarri. Seriously. You might consider using a Bluetooth keyboard with it (like Microsoft's Bluetooth keyboard/mouse kit) when you're at home, but most likely you'd probably just get used to the Acer keyboard.

    Other than that... maybe the new Gateway Athlon 64 notebook that's supposed to be advertised tomorrow (replaces the eMachines M6800 series). If they've fixed the hinge cracking problem the M6800's had.

    The Clevo D470K series 17" widescreen Athlon 64 notebooks are extremely nice... but a bit on the heavy side. Sager, etc sell them.

    Pentium 4 notebooks run very hot. Given your emphasis on heat I'd be very wary of them. They're the worst in terms of battery life too. Athlon 64's fall in between P4's and P-M's in terms of battery life and beat both in performence.

    You could wait and see what comes out in late November. The admins here know but they aren't telling us lowly peasants [ :p].

    If the zd8000 is the Athlon 64 w/GeForce 6800 beast I think it's going to be, I'm buying one [ :D]. (Unless HP comes out with a decent A64 thin-and-light, then it'll be a tough call...) But like I said, the people who know aren't talking. I'm guessing we'll have to wait a few more weeks to find out.

    The older Athlons, prior to the Athlon XP, got pretty hot. AMD fixed their heat problems while Intel's got much, much worse. The new 90nm Athlon 64 desktop chips burn just over half the power than the 90nm P4's do AND they perform better. I have been unable to get the older Athlon 64 CPU in my zv5000z to overheat. Intel recently gave up on the 4GHz P4, they just couldn't figure out how to air cool the things. Meanwhile, the Athlon 64 4000+ and even faster Athlon 64 FX 55 are out. (Laptops stop at a "mere" 3700+ for now.)

    In addition, the P4 lacks the Enhanced Virus Protection (hardware-assisted buffer overflow prevention enabled by WinXP SP2) and 64-bit capability of the Athlon 64.

    I can get 3 hours of DVD movie play on my zv5000z, forget even trying that on a P4 notebook.

    Also take a look at the Sony A290, very powerful with everything you might need and more.
    It is the Fist note Book I see with a DL DVD burner!

    If you did not buy one yet:
    Look at Sony A190, it Comes with Centerino B "2MB cach" with speed up to 2.0, which I think is just as fast as a P4 3.4, even faster if it was not for the HT and the 800 Sysbus on the P4.
    It will have all what you want with out the heat.
