Has anyone bought an Envy from the HP Business outlet? Good experience?

I was looking at a Envy Beats and called them up and asked if they knew the reason for the original buyer returning it, and they said they had no way of knowing. If it was something simple like the owner just cancelled their order or something major like the motherboard failing...etc.

They also said that refurbished only comes with a 90 day warranty? that sucks, no? Does anyone know how much it costs to extend it to the regular 2 year warranty cost?

Just asking cause im trying to pinch pennies here and there and the refurbished store has decent prices.

    Thanks

I have bought tons of refurbished products and never once had a problem. (not from hp just electronics in general) I would think most would be cancellations especially the i7's

You'l probably be fine. Iv heard of a lot of people buying refurbished envy 14s from HP and have never had any problems. Like spencerp said, I think they are mostly just cancellations. I would go for it and test it out and if its got problems and if it does just send it back.

I bought my envy from the refurb store in mid december. so far, it works well, although I am a laptop noob and haven't put it through any rigorous testing. what I did, though is buy the laptop with my visa card. visa warranty service will double the manufacturer's warranty and you have the option to buy extended warranty for 3 or 4 years for around $100 (depends on the price of the equipment). I have not used the warranty service, so I can't comment on the quality of service.

I've seen at least one or two Envy 14's with Radiance displays showing up every day or two, for those that are interested. There are definitely still some out there for those that want one. You can always add on an HP warranty to computers purchased through the Business Outlet, too!

Sekulic, I just ordered a radiance display with similar specs as yours...how do you like your envy 14? Do you notice the i5-450m is adequate for your everyday use? Mine only has 4gb of ram...i wonder if i should buy another 4gb to make it 8gb. Did you buy it through HP outlet or regular HP home store? I purchased through outlet for $903 and i added a 1 year warranty. They gave me discount on shipping.

Did you confirm whether or not it only includes a 90 day warranty? Kinda sounds like here:

    Do you offer a warranty?

Refurbished products purchased from HP come with complete HP warranty, service and support. The level of service and duration varies depending on the model.

Generally speaking, refurbished Business notebooks, desktops, workstations, tablet PCs, thin clients and corresponding options come with a one-year limited warranty, while refurbished Home & Home Office products come with a 90-day limited warranty.

I actually just ordered mine off of eBay, ended up finding a good deal among the overpriced ones. It still has a bit less than a year left on the warranty, but I might still extend it with HP since I plan on keeping this laptop for a long time... then again, there is always something new and shiny around the corner!

I was going to get it through the Business Outlet, but they were sold out of the two 1600x900 models this morning when I got through. I'm pretty sure you bought one of the two I was looking at ;)

I bought a 4gb stick of ram from Newegg to go with the single 4gb stick that will come with my Envy. I tend to do heavy Photoshop work, along with music composition using Ableton Live, so for me having over 4gb will likely make some difference. If you're not using a lot of apps at once or some specific memory hogging programs, 4gb will likely be JUST fine for you.

yes...i realized about the 90 days warranty. That's why i added the 1 year for an extra $100 (it's normally $120). So, i'll know that i'll have 1 year + another 1 year added warranty from my American Express card. That should give me some peace of mind. I did notice that mine was an i5-430m...which is a bit of an older model. The lowest i5 they have now is i5-460m. However...i don't think that it will matter that much. I'm just happy to get one of the last radiance display. I hope it comes perfect and no dead pixels. Just keep trying...they update their refurbish stock often...so i'm sure they'll have some more available. Good luck to you!!!

Thanks, it was pure luck. I actually ended up bidding (and winning) another one earlier, so I'm going to keep which ever one is in better condition and selling the other one. The two I got are identical except for 4gb vs 6gb of RAM (and I already bought a 4gb stick to match with the existing 4gb stick).

I'm hoping the title was a typo like you said since it probably "features" some beats audio, like the speakers, but isn't specifically the Beats edition. Seller verified the screen specs, but I still have my fingers crossed!

I'm guessing that was the only reason it sold in minutes, not seconds!

Either way, it just shows that there will probably always be a slow stream of Envy 14s with Radiance displays showing up on eBay and the HP Business Outlet. Hopefully that will allow most people who still want one a chance to grab it.

you couldve just put the 4gb sticks together and purchased a 2gb stick for the one computer.
