I think ill be buying the HP zx5000 tomorrow.
here are the specs that i came up with:
    p4 3.0 HT
XP Home (i have pro lying around at home that i can install)
    512 (1x512)
40gb 4200 (i figured if this runs too slow, i can upgrade later)
    dvd/cd-rw
    802.11b
    15.4wxga
    128 radeon9600
    12 cell battery

    1315 - $50MIR = 1265.

im putting the Bestbuy warranty on it (ahh, the beauty of working there and having managers that like you :))

now my question is.. are there any coupon codes that i can use? i think i read that "NB9367" 9$50 off) expires 8/1. Whend does NB8218 ($100 off) expire?? im ordering it tonight, 8/1, (around 6pm pt)..

i also have like 42000 points with HPInfoLab. maybe they'll put a laptop on there for once??

I would suggest getting 802.11g. It works much faster (5 times faster), back compatible with b and seems like it is going to be pretty common standard in the years to come. If there is a way to upgrade it later than it is OK, otherwise you will have to get an external card sticking out of your laptop.

well the thing is most of my networking will be over the internet, so b/g will not matter.
ill buy a card for "g", and will use that when needed

I agree, i got the same computer with mostly the same specs, and the 802.11b card was free so i opted for it, i figure that if i ever really want to use the wi-fi, i can spend the extra cash and get a decent wireless G system.

By the way - any reccomendations? ive heard good and bad things about linksys...

    Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz w/HT Technology
    Microsoft Windows XP Home
    512MB DDR SDRAM (1x512MB)
60 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
    802.11b Wireless LAN w/ Built in 56K Modem+10/100 LAN
    15.4" WVA WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
    128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600
    Microsoft Works/Money
    12 Cell Li Ion Battery
1326.56 After Student Discount, 100$ coupon code, 100$ rebate, free shipping and no tax - God I love HP.

I believe the $100 coupon longboards speaks of is the one that expired on 7/27. The only thing available now that I can tell is the $100 mail in rebates (and the new smaller MIRs). Go for the $100 one since you ordered a CTO before the expiration date (9/1). They are suppose to be for all CTO HP's and Compaq's. I asked a HP rep and he told me my order would qualify (ordered an HP CTO on 8/2).
