Just got a 3320ca notice that there is sometimes a high pitched buzzing noise from the right side. Seems to be connected with the power settings selected.

Anyone with an R3000 notice this problem. Sometimes it's there sometimes not.

Hmmm...this is a bit weird. I had this exact same problem on my HP NX7000 notebook (Pentium M CPU) that I returned.

    - The problem is on the upper right corner of the notebook.
    - Happens if you change the Power Management settings to Always On (possibly on some of the other settings as well)
    - Disappears when you set it to Notebook/Laptop setting
    - Disappears when you connect any device to the USB port (mouse, keyboard or any device that draws power from the USB)

After speaking to one of their engineers, it was discovered that a capacitor or resistor (can't remember, almost a year ago) that was causing the problem. Their solution was to put glue over the cap/res causing the probelm. I didn't fell that this was a solution, so I returned the notebook, so I don't know if it worked or not.

I read a post from a user on this site, that if you disable the Power Management feature of the USB port in Device Manager, the problem goes away. You may want to give this a try to see if it's a similar problem as mine (sounds very similar).

    Good Luck!

Funny you should mention that, I did just that when I read about another problem and now that you mention it I haven't noticed it. I'll wait until it's like 3am and all is dead quiet and see then, but I think that may be it.

Now my next question is, should I return it? I like it and everything is working perfectly, I hate this crap, then the next one may not buzz, but then something else may be wrong. Is that buzz the sound of impending death for the laptop, or just a 'tech' bug?

I went through all this with my iBook, stupid Apple and the logic board problem. After 2 of them and problems I just took it back and never got another. Never let anyone tell you Apple makes superior hardware man, their stuff can be pretty junky.

This is just a design of the notebooks. I though it was specific to Pentium M notebooks, but I guess not. Some Acer users have also been experiencing the exact same problem.

I don't believe you have anything to worry about, it's just annoying to hear this buzzing/whining coming from your notebook. As I indicated, HP's engineer's said their solution was to just put glue on top of the capacitor/resistor causing the problem.

If it's a design problem, you're still gonna get the buzzing in the notebook, plus, there could be something wrong with the new unit, besides the buzzing. But you may want to ask for a Pre-ship (they ship you a new unit first, after everything is working, you ship yours back to them). They did that for me to try to resolve the problem, but it didn't in my case. For you, it's worth a try.
