Did you make sure to finalize the CD's and close them before playing them in a CD player?

It could be a bad optical drive. It happens quite often actually. Only other thing is something wrong in windows. One way to test that is to try an external usb burner.. if you know someone who has one just to see if that works. If so, its probably the drive for sure. If you have an image, you might want to reload windows or go back to an older system restore point. If this problem just started happening then using a restore point could help.

And as always, try remembering if anything happened or changed on your system from the last time it was working.

Dvd players play everything these days.. dvd's audio, mp3's. He probably meant his main dvd player in his home and head unit in car.

    hi,

it´s hard, but your drive is dead. I would call HP, vor Service.

    Good luck!

Edit: Ok seems Vista has some problem with CD/DVDdrives
