Ok so a while back I sent my HP ZV5000 to repair. It came back repaired and working just fine.
Problem occured when I just checked this out: I put a DVD in the drive and guess what? In the computer the icon in my comuter (after clicking on it) comes as blank. I know the DVD works as I have tested in the DVD player and other laptops.
After a read around, I saw that this means that you dont have a DVD drive.
Firstly is this really the case? How is that possible, I have watched DVD's on it before when it came and + the model is a DVD drive. Also the dvd drive itself outside says that its DVD.
Can you guys help me or tell me how to fix it?
This is what it looks like after the DVD in the drive:

Can you read CDs, or any other DVDs? If nothing reads I'd try deleting your DVD in Device Manager, rebooting, and let Windows redetect it. Try booting off a CD or DVD first, if that works then you can be pretty sure you have a Windows problem. If all else fails you have a good excuse to buy one of these.

Try what zazonz says. If that fails, you could swap in a new slimline DVD burner like I linked to a couple of messages ago. Swapping drives is amazingly easy. Just unplug, remove the battery, remove the two screws on the bottom of the case that secure the drive sled, slide the sled out, and you'll see what to do from there. You'll need a #0 Phillips screwdriver (tiny). Windows will autodetect the new drive.

My V2000Z drive wouldn't recognize burned cds. I just uninstalled the drive under Hardware Manager and let Windows reinstall it, fixed the problem.
