Hi all, this is my first post at this forum. I did search some time ago about this problem, but i didn't quite find what i was looking for.

It's been a while since my cd/dvd stopped working.

I have a dv6235nr and would like to know what are the requirements when buying a new cd/dvd driver. Does it have to be HP original or are we just talking about driver size to fit the hole?

    Thanks in advance!

Well, if you buy one from HP, it will perfectly match the front face plate. If you buy aftermarket from other vendors the front face plates wont match. This is just a cosmetic issue and if you can live with it then a standard notebook drive should fit into your system. In some cases you would be able to switch the front face plates but you will have to check if the aftermarket CD/DVD and your stock HP match with each other and if the faceplates are removable.

The default drivers included in XP/Vista should be all you would need in terms of drivers for the CD/DVD drive unless you buy one with the Lightscribe or any such extras.
