Tonight, for the first time since I've had my computer I burned a CD. While it was burning my CD drive door or something had this obnoxious rattling. Just curious as to if anyone else has experienced this or just me?

Well I have a v4000t which is the model previous to the v5000. The rattling happend on my laptop. It is just the drive spinning up. I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as it stops after you use the drive.

It stops, yes. But while burning a CD, whhhew it goes at it. I just took and held my finger under it to tone it down a little bit. I was just making sure I wasn't the only one.

Yeah I have a disc for school. It is a movie that I have to watch for class and boy does that drive spin. lol It vibrates quite a bit and is pretty loud. I wouldn't be too concerned as long as your drive works. :)

Try different type of CD/DVD. I noticed this on my DVD writer: some cheaper blank DVDs make a noise when in the drive. It seems they are not ballanced and weigh more at certain parts than at others so that when rotated the heavier parts of the disk give it a non-uniform spin. More expensive disks don't do that.

Well when I just put a regular CD in it doesn't do it. Its mainly just when I'm burning a cd and I'm guessing its because its burning at upwards of 25x.

i have the same issue with my DV5000Z, at first i was concerned, but my cousin who just got his dv5000z had the same issue. we contacted hp, and they told us it was normal for the drive to vibrate (and sound like a motorcycle or a 747 jet, or maybe even a lawnmower :) ) so i dont mind it much. it is normal to mee, and it only happens on certain disks. so it is ok in my opinion!

P.S: i think the DV5000Z is an awesome machine!!!
