Hey fellow HPians. I am having a problem where i can't see my CD/DVD-rom in My Computer on my dv6000. It is showing in Device Manager and it has that yellow ! mark next to it.
I tried to update the driver by manually leading it to SWSetup folder, but it says no better driver found. Maybe i pointed the wrong folder, i don't know. Where should i look into to find a driver for CD/DVD roms??
I also tried that HP recovery utility that helps you to reinstall your drivers and applications, but when i choose Driver Installation, then the next window opens where it tells me to choose the driver i wanna install, but the thing is that there's nothing there to choose - it's empty.
Do you have any other ideas i could try or what am i doing wrong here?

    And one more thing:
I tried to uninstall the CD-rom driver completely, and after i did that i went to Add Hardware. Well, it said it found a new hardware, but when it tried looking for a driver it said an error occured.
I'm confused now. I've seen such a problem before, but the tricks i've tried this always fixed it, but not this time.

Well, i got my CD/DVD rom back by doing a System Restore, but now i have that yellow ! mark next to SCSI/RAID Host Controller. I think it appeared when i tried reinstalling my nVidia nForce chipset drivers. What is that? Something to do with the hard drive?
I am having the exact same problems finding a driver for that as i was finding a driver for the CD/DVD rom.
When i try to update the driver then the folders start to run, but then it says, "an error occured during the installation of this device"
"the specified service does not exist as as an installed service"

I had a similar problem with my NC8430. It turns out that an update notice from HP last week installed a new driver for the TI card reader, which in turn, disabled the CD/DVD drive. I had installed a couple of other updates to try to correct it, and none fixed the problem. Went through the entire process of removing drivers, removing the drive, even trying to run a different drive. I finally went back day by day until I found a restore point that worked (went back 4 days until I restored prior to the HP update).

Now all is fine with the drive. From now on, I manually pick which driver to update from the site.

Thanx for the info, wayne! It just that i haven't installed any updates in a while. And i got that CD-rom problem fixed only to be replaced with another problem. For some reason this SCSI/RAID Host Controller is refusing to take a driver. The folders start running, but then it says that an error occured during the installation(code 39).
I am stunned. I have never come across anything like that before.

Problem solved! I restored windows to the oldest restore point, and fortunately the SCSI/RAID Host Controller problem disappeared.
I think it started when i tried to install nVidia nForce driver(hoping that this would fix my CD/DVD-ROM problem),because, while installing, it asked me if i also wanted to install some kind of a SWI/bla bla something that was supposed to make the hard-drive work faster with the CPU, and i hit YES.
