Help!!
I tried everything from disabling protected mode in IE7 to reinstalling flash, etc. I also got 3 .dlls from another site and added them to the WMP folder but nothing!!
When I click on a CNN video link, I get the video window to come up but it shows nothing in the video section (not even the playback buttons - see screenshot)
Anyone has any idea on this?

Turn off UAC, reinstall flash, and then try again with UAC turned off. I've got mine working with FF2.0, IE Tab, and UAC off so hopefully this will help.

I just ried and mine works perfect? HP 9000

I can get the video on CNN.com to work on my dv2000t just fine without disabling UAC or anything. I was prompted to allow IE to have access through the firewall. Have you checked your firewall settings?
-
UAC is User Account Control - the annoying functionality which dims your screen (the reason I turned it off!) every time you try to do something even remotely important...

Tried all above but still no luck...Sooooo frustrating indeed...

I disabled Norton Internet Security firewall, re-installed flash and java but problem not solved.
How can I re-install WMP alone without going through rebuilding the system from scratch? -
Reinstalling WMP might not be possible since it is part of the OS itself. Hve you tried resetting IE7 to default settings. This should delete all add-ons and put the plugins to default. You could also scan the system by using sfc /scannow.

Mine cousin's worked with no problems - straight out off the box.

I was referring to Windows Firewall, not Norton. You can find it in the Control Panel, check the exceptions tab.
CNN.com does have some suggestions on what to do if the videos don't play. Have you followed those? -
Tried everything short of a reinstall...
I was having VPN issues so fooled around with TCP/IP settings and now it works again...
Debating whether or not to reinstall...
Still having some bugs in connecting to wireless networks (e.g. at Starbucks yesterday in London) and some issues in Outlook (send/receive progress thing never stays on even though I always ask it to!!) -
Scrap the above....Even on CNN only videos that work are from NBC!!
CNN video will not display with Vista!!
