Hello, this is my first post here. I am a noob to laptops so keep that in mind. I have a Compaq v2405US with Mobile AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8 Ghz, and 768 RAM. I had my power management set to max battery and I really noticed a difference in the performance. So I changed it to portable/laptop and it seems to run faster. In the Systems Properties it says 1.8GHz processor, but when I run mobmeter it shows the cpu speed at 800Mhz. There are no programs running when it says this. I just dont understand. If someone could clue me in I'd appreciate a lesson.

    thanks for any help!

thats because of AMD powernow technology. When you are in Portable mode, it adjusts CPU speed based on usage. Faster for more intensive programs, and slower for just browsing, word processing, etc. This saves gives you better battery life, since it isn't always at 1.8 GHz, but instead is variable.

Thanks for the fast response. Like I said I am a noob and am just learning certain things about this laptop. I changed the setting to Home/office and now it is staying at 1.8. Thanks!

Really though, keep it at Portable/Laptop. You'll get much more battery life, and it will speed up to 1.8GHz when it needs to.
