Well, yet another problem with yet another HP.

For those keeping track, this is my third HP system.

Let's do a quick run down.

First system was a dv5030us. Motherboard died, as well as multiple optical drives. Took HP more than two months "repairing" before they finally replaced the system.

Second system was a dv6345us. Motherboard also went bad, though in a different manner. The first system just flat out stopped working, where the dv6345us started crashing more and more and more until it just stopped working. Also went through 4 optical drives.

Now the current system is a dv6500t CTO. The only problem up until now was that the shipped optical drive couldn't write DVDs at full speed (was stuck at 2x and every burn failed). Got that replaced and its been flawless up until now.

Now today I turned the system on and I hear the fan grinding. Great. I use compressed air to blow the fan and system out every few days. No dust comes out. I come back an hour later and turn the system on, fan starts grinding again. Sound goes away. Fan kicks up and the sound returns.

I've had enough fans die on GPUs over the years to know the sound. First it starts making bad sounds at start up. Then it'll go away and run normally after a few minutes. Then as time goes on the sound will last longer and longer until the sound is full time, and then the fan will just die.

I was starting to like HP products again. I had the feeling from the start this system wouldn't last. And now I know that to be true.

Well there are the new dv6700t's which I'm sure is pretty much the same. I'm sure you could get a replacement through warranty since you are having all these problems. Are you still under warranty for this? I'm getting my notebook replacement this week with a new 1 year warranty. My old system that I purchased March 2007 broke down about a month ago and am getting it replaced after sending it in for repair and not getting it repaired at all. Repair depots fault.

You can bet I won't be buying HP next time.

It hasn't gone in for repair yet. I know how the Indian tech support is, so I'm probably going to have to wait until I can put the phone up to it and tell them thats not a weed whacker and that its the fan.

I've only had this system since the beginning of October.

I really don't want a FOURTH HP, third replacement, in two years. It'd be nice to just have the fan replaced and hope this one lasts longer than the other two did.
