Hello,
I am interested in the R3000T, but am confused about the processor included. After going to customize and reading the "help me decide" on the processors it says that the P4 in the laptop has a front side bus of 800 MHz. I checked on intel's website and found this page: http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/info.htm#mpentium . It shows that only the desktop processors have buses of 800 MHz and that the Mobile chip should have a bus of 533 MHz. Does this mean hp put a desktop chip in a labtop. I can only imagine how this would drain the batteries. It might also be a mistake on either site. If anyone can help I would be very appriciative.

Thanks for the response,
How much does the extra front bus speed affect proformance? Overall and in high demand games. Is it worth the extra heat and reduced battery life? Is there a notebook with a mobile P4 (about 3 GHz) with an ati 9600 video card available from hp or others?
Thanks,
John -
Yes, it's a desktop CPU in a notebook and it does run hotter and will use more battery power. So get yourself a 12 cell battery. Other notebooks has the P4 Mobile but it will cost more.

If you can afford it, it sounds like the Acer Ferarri 3200 would be perfect for you. Athlon 64 2800+ Low-Voltage (35W max, less than half what the P4's burn), ATI Radeon 9700 128meg video, and all the trimmings. See the Acer forum here for details. Sadly, HP doesn't make anything similar.

My zx5000 with a 3.2 ghz P4 just came today and I've been putting it through its paces. I did some simple work with it (typing, playing midi files, a little bit of CD listening) and also installed Starcraft/Broodwar (ok, it's an old game, but I still like playing it when I have a chance) to play for a few minutes. The 12 cell battery lasted about 2 hours 10 minutes. It was on its way to lasting 2 1/2 hours until I started playing SC. This was with the brightness on the screen turned to the 3rd lowest setting and the wireless turned off, fyi.

Thanks for your posts.
I think I will most likely go with the ferarri despite the price (which isn't too extreme). I liked the smaller size (1'2" and under 6 lbs). These stats with the ability to go 64 bit in the future makes it really attractive. Who knows I'm starting to get into linux, so I might try the 64-bit linux. Thanks for the feedback on the zx5000 and I'm sure the ferarri has similar battery life because it has a smaller battery. But the size makes up for that. -
sorry under 7 lbs
