i just bought HP Pavillion DV2852tx (2700 series), running Vista Home Premium Edition w Service Pack 1.
I experienced the battery life is not good, with lite-medium usage (playing mp3 while reading code using visual studio), it only last for almost 2hours. I was curious, then i checked the CPU Speed in the system information (shortcut Windows+Break), the Core 2 Duo T8100 stays at the actual speed (2.1Ghz), it doesn't throttling down while the cpu usage is very small (less than 10% while playing mp3). I think this is the cause why the battery life is so bad.
I already set the power scheme to power saver, and nothing i could do.
Is there some extra setting needed to enable the SpeedStep allowing cpu to throttling down?
thanks,
Edo

Which battery do you have? just wondering...
-
standard battery? i don't know,maybe 6-cells?
anyway the problem is the clock stays @2.1Ghz , wether i'm doing something or nothing...
anyone experienced this? -
Well standard battery should only get about 3 hours. That's besides the fact though.

Have you verified with another app (like CPU-Z) that the cpu is not throttling?
On a side note: The only thing that comes up for me with the Windows+Break shortcut is the basic system info, which just lists the static rated speed of the cpu...... -
Download this to track your current CPU usage rate.
http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_146.zip -
I second that. The "System" page in Windows Vista only displays the maximum frequency of your processor. You can lower the CPU frequency (by multiplier) and undervolt your processor by using RMClock. Search the forums for "The Undervolting Guide", as this will help you get the most battery life out of your machine.

thx, i haven't check with CPU-Z, will check later and tell u the response.
anyway i also check with dxdiag, is it display the actual clock or just the maximum freq?
Thanks -
It's not real time. It just lists the internal components.

Guys, i checked with CPu-Z, the cpu clock is throttling down, thanks,
i thought the information in Windows+Break gives the real clock, but unfortunately it's not the same as windows xp ha3..
btw, it's only throttling down minimum at 50% at it's max. clock? can it be lower than that?
Thanks
CPU not throttling down
